If anything, a freeze build will do the best on the trash.

The potentials alone do not make up for the massive loss in stats it has compared to more up-to-date katanas. You need to craft sange to be worth using over other cheaper katanas with much higher uncrafted base stats.

Only reason I ask is because these weapons are dirt cheap on the market for such a high dmg percentage

Because the potential only applies to Kanran, which has a rather low base damage. He probably assumes that you don't have the economy to go for better global damage katanas so the katana's "fine" to use outside of Kanran.

I'd recommend a 'one blade cuts all' approach for now.

Weapon hierarchy pre 13* has yet to stagnate with more updates coming soon. Getting overly-niche katanas may not be the best investment. If you're in need of a decent katana to hold you over, Boulay Obs, Dio Kalicizma (pricey because rare), Sukei Suzumi are all good picks.
