Doesn't my weapon need to be the same as my fodders for this trick to work?

EDIT: Just did some tests with junk rares, everything needs to be the same. No way in hell am I buying Astra rods for affix fodders, even if it was 100% guarantied to work 0_o

There are plenty of rings that don't work on Hero. Attack Advance ring for instance.
But it's written on the rings, as far as I know.

This is probably already known by many but can you transfer defensive boost or offensive boost from weapon/unit to new weapon/unit? e.g receptor.
