    Default Captcha?

Ever considering adding a capatcha for forum registration? It would stop the spambots, for one.

That would be a good idea... I mean the first 3 pages of new posts were all pharmacy ads.

Looks like there's one already in place.

    Spoiler!

It could either be brute forced, or it could be someone physically logging in and pasting ads everyone. (Since it seems to generally be targeted at Pso2 General). Maybe another mod or two to ban these kinds of accounts before they get out of hand?

I didn't realise there was one, I can't really remember if there was when I registered. If it is somebody just sat there, that is really obnoxious.

this is actually a good idea.

    would keep the bots/spammers away.

and would also prevent the "pso2 captcha" threads since they would have to learn to get in the site.

i must be evil to actually find this a good idea right,

There already is a captcha, and beyond that I don't see too much that can be done to prevent spammers from signing up. But it did occur to me that you can stop spammers rom spamming. Since most of the threads on the forum are around for a while, it's pretty rare for a user to make more than a thread or two perday. Would it be possible to lock a user's account if they post more than five threads in one day?

That seems reasonable. No one here really posts that many topics in one day. I think you should do it in less than a day. The cool down for posting topics/post is like 30secs, right? Maybe you could do to where the users account would get blocked if they posted 5 topics back to back in the course of 10-30 mins?

I am in agreement with the aforementioned proposition. Maybe have some kind of auto-marking for posting 2-4 topics within some short time span [less than 6 hours, maybe as long as a day?], and an auto-lock for posting on the forum if a 5th topic is attempted, which would require moderator/admin approval for unlocking, or otherwise banning.

If it's even possible to do such. I know when I had my own small-time forum on invisionfree, I had set it so anyone with less than 10 posts required mod approval to make posts / topics [or if the account was verified by me as safe, moved into a category not requiring approval]. Basically made spamming impossible, since the posts requiring approval didn't count on their record, and I could just ban any would-be spammers. But, I understand my system couldn't work on a forum of this size.

*obligatory 3333 postcount post note :P*
