Yama woke up early the next morning and looked at the clock. It was 5 a.m. in the morning and Arch was staring out the window. “Something wrong Arch?” Yama asked but Arch remained silent. Yama went up to Arch and looked in the direction she was looking at. “Something is not right.” Arch said as she finally broke her silence. “What do you mean?” Yama asked. Arch turned her attention to Yama and stared at him with her green eyes and pale face. Yama didn’t know how to respond and thought it was rude to return a stare so decided to turn away. “You didn’t move here because your mother was on a business trip didn’t you?” Arch asked Yama out of suspicion. “No.” Yama answered but Arch continued to stare at him. Yama couldn’t resist the stare and broke out, “My mother had me……………” Yama stopped as Matt’s mother barraged into the room. Ruby and Matt woke up from the slamming of the door by Matt’s mother. “Get dressed everyone; we’re leaving in 15 minutes.” Mrs. Cypher said. “Why mom, what’s the rush?” Matt asked. His mother did not replied and dashed off with a worried look on her face. “Hey guys come look out over here.” Arch directed her friends to look out the window. Everyone came by the window and look out from the window. There was large black cloud deep into the horizon. “It’s not within the city yet but it looks like it’s about no more than 50 miles from the city borders.” Arch said. “Could it be from a wild fire?” Ruby questioned, “No, a wild fire that happened over night would have at least reached to the city already by morning and is not likely the cause of those flashes also.” Yama answered, “So let’s get dressed quickly everyone and see what’s going to happen.”
After getting dressed up, Mrs. Cypher re-enters the room and directed everyone to get into the car. “Yama, tell me where you live.” she said with a pale face. There was something Matt’s mother was not telling to the kids, sense she did not mention whether she was going to drop Yama off at his house.
Yama was directing Matt’s mother the direction to his house as Mrs. Cypher drove across the neighborhood and once they arrived, she immediately ran out of the car and rang the door bell. Yama’s mother also had the same pale face as Matt’s mother. Matt’s mother seems like she was telling Yama’s mother something, something dire and rushed her to the car. “Yama! Thank goodness you’re okay!” Yama’s mother cried as she hugged him upon entering the vehicle. “Mom, what’s going?” both Yama and Matt asked their mothers respectively. “It’s okay Matt; you are going to be fine. We just have to get to the base where your father was deployed.” his mother replied. “Why are we going to dad’s deployed base Mom? There’s something you’re not telling me!” Matt yelled. “Just shut up okay! Just shut it!” his mother cried out loud. Ruby tucked herself onto Matt’s arm. “Mommy, it’s happening again.” Yama cried to his mother. “It’s okay Yama, its okay, we are going to be fine this time.” his mother said, trying to relax her son.
Everyone kept silent as Mrs. Cypher drove to the base and as they drove, fighter crafts flew over them and back into the city while passing by some tanks that where heading the same direction as the aircrafts. The car approached the security entrance was forced to be stopped. “Ma’am I’m sorry but we do not accept refugees here at this base, you must go to the camp on the other side of the city.” the guard said in a demanding tone. “I’m not here to seek refuge; I’m here for my husband!” Matt’s mother yelled, “I’m looking for Lloyd Cypher.” “Give me a sec,” said the guard as he pulled out a headset,” Commander, your wife is here. Sir you know we…..but sir…….fine sir….yes sir.” The guard sighs and looks at the Matt’s mother as he put his headset away. “Everyone out of the vehicle and follow me quickly.” he announced. Everyone got out of the car and ran as fast as they could right away to keep up with the guard. Ruby saw soldiers running around the camp, grabbing their guns, going into airships, and jumping into vehicles. It did not seem like the troops were running a drill. The guard stopped and knocked on a door. The door opened immediately and Matt’s father came out. “Thank god you are okay.” he said as he hugged Matt and his mother. “Is everyone fine?” “We are all fine honey.” Matt’s mother replied. “Dad what’s going on?” Matt asked, demanding for answer. “You and your friends along with your mother and your friend’s mother are going to stay here for awhile.” Matt’s father answered. “You’re hiding something from me dad, just like mom is trying to hide why we came here!” Matt yelled. “Matt!” his father yelled. Matt kept silence and Ruby pulled him back. His father turned to his mother and said, “There’s an underground bunker here with a living quarter, take the kids and this women there. I’ll tell you when it’s over.” Lloyd said to his wife. Matt’s mother nodded and was lead to an underground bunker by the same entrance guard.
“Quickly everyone get in!” the guard yelled as he signaled everyone to come in after opening the door to the underground bunker. Ruby was distracted by the black cloud over the horizon that has now reached above the city. The dark cloud had flashes of lighting coming out from it, striking the city and lighting it up in flames. Ruby began to squints her eyes as something caught her attention. “Hey Ruby get in!” Matt yelled at her. Ruby didn’t hear Matt as she was too focus on what she was seeing. Matt ran up to Ruby and dragged her down the steps as the guard closed the door. “Ruby, what’s the matter with you?!” Matt yelled and slapped Ruby across the face as if she did something wrong. “Matt!” his mother yelled. Matt took deep breath and calmed down. “Sorry about that Matt, I just zoned out for the moment.” Ruby said. “Its okay.” he replied and hugged Ruby. “Make yourself feel at home everyone, the bunker is connected to every building in the base and has housing room as well.” the guard announced. “Thank you sir, I’m sure we’ll be fine from here.” Matt’s mother stated as she got up. “We’ll make sure we find those two kids’ parents as soon as possible, until then please remain safe within the bunker.” the guard said as he left the bunker.
Ruby whispered into Matt’s ear while they were hugging, “Matt, I saw something in the cloud but I can’t tell what it was.” Matt’s face turned pale as a response and he looked everyone in the room. Yama’s mother was combing Yama’s hair, Arch was chatting with Brendan, and his mother was making her way down to the lower levels and turns back to look and Ruby. “Do you still have your book and tablet with you?” he asked. “I never leave wit……………” Ruby touches her pockets, “No…….it’s gone! I must have left it in the car!” Matt sighs. “I’m sorry Matt, I’ll get it back as soon as we are able to get out.” she said. Matt’s mother called him to come downstairs, “But we’ll never get out.” he whispered to himself. Matt left Ruby, who stood alone watching him leave the room as he made his way to the staircases that lead to the lower level as Ruby turned away and headed for the computers with something on her mind, “What was that thing?” she thought to herself.
Matt’s father, Lloyd, came into the bunker later in the after to greet everyone and stood with them. Lloyd was greeted with dinner by his wife. “Is everyone doing well?” he asked at the dinner table but everyone kept silent. “Arch, Brendan, don’t you worry I’ve sent my men to go look for your parents, I’m sure they’ll be here soon enough.” Lloyd said as he attempted to brighten up the moment. “I think I’m gonna go to my quarters now.” Matt excused himself from the table. Ruby looked at the others and followed him. Yama excused himself and heads for the living room with Arch and Brendan. “Don’t you think we should tell the children?” Yama’s mother asked Matt’s parents. “I think it’s best not to………………….” Lloyd was interrupted by a quake. The three parents stood silent and looked around awkwardly before another quake happened. “Grab the kids!” Lloyd whispered. Yama and Matt’s mother ran to the living and Lloyd headed in the direction Matt went.
Ruby was lying on Matt on his bed in his quarters. “What do you think is going on?” she asked Matt. “I don’t know but it’s something big that my parent’s probably know of.” he replied. Another quake happened and the both of them sat up, “There it goes again.” he said. Another quake happened and the lights went out. The door opened and a flashlight came through. “Matt, Ruby!” Lloyd called them out. “Dad!” “Come, we have to leave now!” “But dad!” “I can’t tell you right now but we have to leave now!” Lloyd rushed into the room and dragged Ruby and Matt out and met up with the others.
Sounds of gunfire and explosions where coming from the bunker’s door as the bunker itself begins to collapse. Lloyd reunites Ruby and Matt with the others and lined them all up by the walls. “On my mark, everyone follow me and do not stop until I say so. We run as fast as we can to the escape shuttles.” Lloyd whispered as everyone positioned by the steps leading to the door. Lloyd held out his gun and was joined by four other marines taking cover by the wall. “One…….two….thr………..” the door was slammed open and a large robotic insect stood there and grabbed Lloyd outside with one of its arms. Matt’s mother wanted to scream but her fear kept her from screaming. “Open fire!” yelled one of the marines. Lloyd came back down with a claw mark on his chest, “NOW EVERYONE! FOLLOW ME TO THE SHUTTLES!!!!!!” he yelled and signals his men to follow him.
(This the theme of this chapter:
All hell is let loose and is to be played here just for a little something)
Everyone ran outside. Debris where flying everywhere, body parts being blown apart, explosions one after another, falling objects from the sky blew up upon the buildings. It was as if they had just walked into hell. Lloyd signals everyone to follow him as he kept running from cover to cover. “Jack, Mitch, Dan, Albert, lead them to the shuttles, I’ll hold off the tangos!” he ordered his marines. “It’s been an honor sir.” “Like-wise, now move it!” The four marines lead the family and friends away from Lloyd’s position as Lloyd loads his gun.
“Come get some you son-of-a-bitches!” Lloyd yelled as he opened fire with his gun. One by one, each of the figures he fired at would retreat from the firing but there were too many and Lloyd was stormed. Lloyd was eventually shot several times before falling down. As Lloyd lay down behind his cover a large figure stood before him. “Hvordan ønsker du å dø menneske, med hodet eller uten hodet ditt?” the figure asked him. “Fuck you.” Lloyd responded. “Ikke det svaret jeg var ute etter.” the figure said before ripping Lloyd’s head off. “I dag skal denne planeten snart bli vår å kreve!” the figure yelled as it rose Lloyd’s decapitated head into the air as its fellows began to cheer. “Mine brødre! Snart skal vi ha vår hevn på våre fedre, men først! Vi må drepe mennesker som er i mot oss!” the lifeforms began marching across the base and killing any marines left.
The four remaining marines and family-n-friends never made it to the shuttles. The shuttles where already destroyed before they got to it. “What do we do now?!” Mrs. Cypher yelled at the marines. One of the marines tapped on the other’s shoulders and pointed out in a distance. There was an undamaged light armed vehicle with several marines scattered around it. “It’s a long shot but we have orders to get them out of here.” said one of the marines. One of the marines pulls out a headset, “Delta 2-9, do you read me?” “Alpha 1-6, this Delta 2-9, how the hell are you guys alive?!” “Delta 2-9, we have orders from the commander to get several refugees out of the base, is that vehicle in good shape?!” “I got a man inside powering it up; it’ll be up in 2 minutes Alpha! How the hell do you even……..” “Look to your east Delta 2-9!” the marine raised a mirror and made a signal to the marines on the other side of the court. “Roger Alpha 1-6, we’ll give you covering fire, just get the package over here quickly before we get stormed.” The marine on the mic turned to his back. “Everyone run as fast as you can! We’ll give you cover!” the marine yelled. “NOW RUN!!!!!!!” Everyone began to run for the vehicle. “DELTA 2-9 GET THAT VEHICLE WORKING, THE PACKAGE IS ON THE WAY NOW!!!!!!” “ALPHA TEAM COVERING FIRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!” “DELTA COVERING FIRE!!!!!!” Both Alpha 1-6 and Delta 2-9 gave the refugees covering fire and protected them. As the refugees climbed into the vehicle, Delta squad’s leader came to their side. “Lackey!” he yelled. The marine inside the vehicle came out to his leader. “Get these people out of here, we’ll give you cover.” he said. “It’s been a pleasure Sergeant” Lackey saluted to his Sergeant as the last member of Alpha squad was killed. Lackey went into the vehicle, started the vehicle, and drove the refugees out from the base. Delta’s Sergeant turned around back to his reaming men, “MARINES TODAY WE ARE GOING TO DIE IN HELL, BUT WE SURE AIN’T GOING TO HELL ALONE!!!!! MAKE SURE HELL IS PACKED WITH THESE DAM BASTARDS WHEN WE GET THERE!!!!!!!!” he yelled as he and his marines bravely fought off the attackers, allowing the vehicle to leave the base and escape.
-Aftermath-
Two hours after the assault, the base now crowded with the unknown life forms and totally destroyed. The aliens where marching in a formation and what seemed like a leader stood on top on one of the destroyed shuttles and took off his helmet to show his face. The alien soldiers all beginning chanting, “Vi skal reise oss!”
