quick questions! PSO2 Episode 2 (VITA)

My friend bought me a copy of PSO2 Ep2. However, I didn't play the first one. Would that keep me from being able to play? Is it required that i have data from the first game in order to play EP2?

I'm asking this because whenever I try to hit "Online Login," it doesn't load the different ships, it just sends me back to the title screen. Not sure what's causing it. I've got all the updates so far btw. Any help would be appreciated.

1. You don't need Ep1 to play Ep2 since it's all updates on the online game. So answer is No.
2. You sure you hitting log-in button instead of the button that sends you back to the title screen instead? Title screen-->big square button-->first option-->select ship-->first option to select character log-in.

yeah, I'm able to navigate that much.

Literally what happens is: I hit "Login" > Vita says "Please wait" > Ship screen opens > then I'm sent back to the Title Screen. I'm not sure if that's a connection error or not.
