Using cheat engine for psu 1

these forums look pretty dead but hopefully i can get an answer from someone who still plays psu or at least the story mode of psu. does anyone know if it is possible to use cheat engine on the pc version of psu 1 and if so how? i try and disable gameguard but it tends to either kill psu or lock up the game. any help anyone might be able to provide would be greatly appreciated.
