Man, like... iunno, I dunno how they fit into the aesthetic of the game. I guess... they kinda look like Nyau? Kinda? If you look at them a certain way? It just looks like "Hey, we made these cute pet things. Just stuff 'em in there somewhere."

From what I can tell yeah. There's probably more to it than that though.
EDIT: I assume most people have kept this in mind, but lets not forget, we haven't seen the skill tree. For all we know it could have a bunch of amazing support skills and end up replacing Ra in the Te/Ra combo. We also didn't see a second weapon. The attacks the summons used didn't seem different so I doubt they're related to the weapons, which makes me wonder if they got talis or something. I hope they don't just have that baton thing and gunslash.

I'd say you should always look at something and draw your own conclusions.
I wouldn't judge it based on other people's opinions, anyway. Just because the Gallery doesn't like doesn't mean you're gonna dislike it.
It depens, if they only showed of 1* pets the 13* pets could still be decent, but we won't know untill next year.
I just noticed none of the chars in the trailer have mags. Summons might replace them for this class?
The Bouncer trailer didn't have mags either, so maybe not.
