Yes, it's a huge step from PSU - a huge step backwards. PSU had a lot more content than this game. And although there was a monthly fee, there were more things to do; more missions and areas to fight in, more lobbies to wander about in (where the frick's the Casino, Sega?!). PSO 2 feels cramped and claustrophobic in comparison to PSU. PSO 2 mostly improves upon PSU/PSO Portable's combat system, but also removes some of the cool things, like cast SUV's and Nanoblasts (then again, I guess there's no Beasts in this game (PSO 2 = Beast racist)). PSU was a great mix of loot finding and level grinding, you could get by without having the best gear, so long as you levelled your PA's and your class level, it was a game which rewarded the grind. It had it's annoying moments too - failing a synth and losing all the rare materials was bollocks, but stuff like that I think could have been improved in a patch. PSO 2 is a hybrid between PSO and PSU, but in many ways fails to be as good as either.

Default the error in this logic is

the error in this logic is that PSO2 just came out. on day 1 of PSU there were 8 missions, 2-3 environments, and they updated over the weeks and months. also, PSU had major issues with the addition/unlocking of content that was already in-game. (or at least in-plan.) plus, PSU dropped one of the core elements of mmo-games, the guild/clan/team, which PSO2 has right out the door.

Opinions can be opinions, but any/every mmo will start out small, and grow as time passes. you can't complain about PSO2's lack of content, when it's only been officially out for 2 days..
PSU only had nano-blasts and SUVs after a bunch of updates. Just be patient. or play something else. PSU is still available @ 10 bucks a month till sept.

    Default well

not really, this just came out two days ago. The casino was part of the aoti expansion, and the suv's are a lot better in this game because every race has access to them. In Psu it was annoying how only casts and beasts could have suv's. and beasts arent in this game because in pso there was no beast. Also, i like how pso2 lets you make your own skills instead of grinding for hours trying to get the next stage of a photon art, when instead, you can find more levels of the skills. Also the combat in pso2 is better then any phantasy star game yet. it is very fun and requires you to stay engaged or you'll get killed very fast. Psu made it so that fighting as a ranger or force made you stand there and shoot, and the hunters just tnk every hit, while spamming pa's. Also, if you have unlocked all the missions then theres like 4 different environments already, and they're planning on another one to be added mid july. volcano, forest, City, Desert and soon Tunnels) Also, character customization is so much better, as you can customize just about everything. And they even added a quest system (client orders) which can keep you quite busy and give you pretty good rewards and keep you going. Next, the story is implemented into MP so your character gets to experience the story and some some character. In addition to that, they have randomly generated levels. psu had like 1-2 variants of a mission, which for me was very boring, while being able to easily predict what you'd be up against. Also pso2 added the codes, which is a major game changer because its so random and exciting. I could go on, but I wont. If anything pso2 is a large step in the right direction and I hope sega makes it even better in the future.

    Default Pfft, teams... who cares?

Pfft, teams... who cares? Just because there's now an option to properly create a team doesn't mean its members are going to be any more or less devoted to it, as I experienced from playing Blue Burst. And, didn't PSU still have the Guardians ship, Parum, Neudaiz and Moatoob environments/ lobbies at launch? Wasn't there still a long, comprehensive offline single player story, spanning multiple areas, to play? I bought the PS2 game in 2006, didn't play online initially, but I swear there was more content in the Ethan Waber campaign alone than there is in PSO 2 now. Less content than a 6 year old PS2 game, for a game that bears the prestigious title of 'PSO 2' - that's pathetic. After 6 years, the onus was on them to produce a game that was larger in scope to PSU, but felt true to PSO - PSO 2 does neither. PSO 2 has so few environments, that it's story suffers greatly and just feels trivial - it's definitely not on the same grandiose scale of PSU's. It doesn't evoke any sense of PSO nostalgia; PSO had a dark, ominous aura to it, this game is more like a prequel to PSU. Right now, I don't feel like I'm apart of cool videogame world that I care about, I feel like I'm part of a sterile, monetised service, and things like how the game trailer plays on every video screen, breaks the 4th wall and sense of immersion.

Default PSO2's combat is great and

PSO2's combat is great and an improvement - however it is JUST as spammy as PSU. You'd have to really suck at games to find this game difficult or find it particularly strategic. The only difficulty I had was solo'ing the Vol Dragon when I was < lvl 20, but the combination of a powerful, grinded sword and having properly invested in my skill tree made it possible. It's still all about the grind, not about how skilled you are, and I feel PSU was better at rewarding the player who grinded. I hate how you have to find your PA's now, before you would only have to buy them once then level them. As for the Emergency codes, they can be quite hit and miss, especially when you get one too many Code collects or whatever, when trying to do a timed mission. I prefer having the enemies and level layouts be pre-determined, not random, but that's just me. PSO 2's client orders (**** you Koffee), matter board quests (pointless fetch quests and general tedium), story quests (it's worse than PSU's story) so far have all been balls and I wouldn't list any of them as positives.
