Default Is buster a good class?

Basically what the title says. Was wondering if Buster is any good as a main past 100, aside from the 101 passive skill.

Depends on what you're looking for out of it. Buster is really a Master of None for pretty much the entire game until it passes Lv. 150, after which it starts getting Burst skills that capitalize on the Burst Gauge. I personally think it's "okay", but it doesn't hold a candle to a specialized class in terms of ability.

However, if you feel like alternating between Techs, melee, and ranged at the same time, go right ahead.

I'm basically wondering if playing a buster would make it more difficult to clear SH and XH missions compared to if i played a hunter/ranger. I like the ability to use all three types, but i can live without that if it means I can clear SH missions easier.

I believe it would be faster to use a dedicated class, solely because dedicated classes have better raw stats and raw stats are actually good in this game. But as stated, Buster isn't terrible, its just balanced. Your weapon matters a lot more than your class choice because it's where most of your damage comes from.

Thanks for the info! if it's not too much would you also be able to explain to me how the core refinery works? playing the game untranslated and not sure what's the difference between the 20k option and the 500 option. am i suppose to make some of those new dust like attachments to use in the 20k refinement?

I personally find you're better specialising and then using a skill board with a weapon unlock for particular enemies/bosses rather than playing Buster -- for example I play Hunter and have a Rifle unlock on my 3rd skill board for enemies such as the Toas series.

Also all classes get the Burst Mastery skill at 151, so I don't think Buster really ever outshines the others.

For the core refinery, the 500 GE option mashes cores together to upgrade them into better ones. For example, you combine 3 Power IVs together to make a Power V. Note that all refines create small cores, meaning that you can only use them for attach parts.

The 20K GE option allows you to transfer any latent onto an attach part, meaning you don't need the materials to create another attach part. Just create a cheap one with say... a Power I, then spend the GE to transfer Power V onto it, instead of needing to hunt Super materials.

Everything is 100% like the rest of the game as well at the refinery, so don't worry about any RNG.

Note that once you get level 151+, the Final Crew have a couple of Crew members known as "Core Refinery Chiefs", and if you place one of those onto the Core Refinery, you'll be able to make even better latents. For example, 3x Power V will turn into Power VI instead of Shoot V.
