How is NGS in 2025?

So I played the beta back in 2021 and enjoyed the game but also felt like there wasn’t that much there in terms of content.

I saw similar complaints on release and was just wondering how is NGS now? Been in a PSO mood lately and I do remember enjoying my time with the beta. Also gave me some Xenoblade X vibes at the time which was unexpected but appreciated.

(I thought about asking this on Reddit but something about asking this on PSOW felt incredibly nostalgic lol)

The game has had many QoL updates since the beta, and what could be considered Episode 1 of the story has been finished for a while.

While the majority of the content in the game is still open world (with the pros and cons that that brings), "end game" is back to being primarily instanced (which can mean that it feels like you are just doing the same thing over and over again in the same set of quests).

If you do plan to play right now, there is an event going on that can give you points for higher end gear and materials (though SEGA has also implemented some major catch-up incentives, like fully upgraded weapons and armor that is better than the event purchasable gear [before upgrading it] just by reaching level 65 of 95 in a class).

I’ll give NGS a try at some point soon. Glad to see more instance content there even if I did love the open world.

Its probably quite good if you're starting right now, but if you're a long time player you start to get frustrated by the lack of meaningful updates.

These days its just dripfed story content (seriously, they only update one chapter which lasts like 20 minutes, every year) with the occasional falz (which sometimes isn't even tied to the story).

Once you reach the end of the current story, (which is still stuck in end of episode 1/start of episode 2), you'll start to run into the same issue with the initial 2021 release. We STILL haven't left Halpha and the open world will start to feel very stale. Creative space has alleviated this ever so slightly. Card game is alright too.

Endgame is basically dext (combat zone) farming for money, and fashion with occasional weapon upgrades sprinkled in (again generally by farming old reused content which has been "updated" with slightly new enemies or bosses/level caps).

There's P2W mechanics with "S" augment capsules paywalled by mileage. I dunno about global, but ship2 JP has a very bad inflation problem with scalpers everywhere and no one buying stuff. Min/maxing can get very expensive.

Anyway, if you're starting fresh, there's a fair bit to do. Don't rush
