GC: Servers shutting down?

Someone on the GameFAQS forums, and the IGN forums by the name of "MegaSonic Hedgehog" posted this...

"ST has announced the official servers are closing, the GC population is being expelled from all illegal private servers because of issues with "n00bs ruining the community."

Ranko has been IP Banned, and has no hope of ever being back on this board.

Obviously, I don't believe him. And since I figured this was a better forum, with people who would know the truth about something such as this. I wonder, is this true, or just a cruel hoax caused by some delinquent in his mother's basement?

And since there is no official news, why believe him?

Oh yeah, also, Sonic Team doesn't have access to "expell" users from illegally run servers. And I doubt a major company would use the term "n00bs".

In all seriousness, yeah. Sounds like, looks like, and smells like attention grabbing hoax.

Plenty of people have said the same thing over the past few years, but until there's an official announcement, historically being a few month window beforehand, don't sweat it.

If Sonic Team was going to close the Gamecube servers, there would be a notice posted on the official website. The post that was made on IGN is a hoax.

I actually thought there was something to be worried about when I first saw this thread, but after reading it I see nothing to worry about.

Besides, wouldn't it have to be on the official ST site if it was true?

I highly doubt ST would do anything to the GC servers before PSU comes out. To run those servers doesn't cost much for them. They don't do server side saving nor is the hardware requirements to run the software is high.

The only thing they can do with those old servers is to throw them out or keep using them after PSU comes out.

When ST say 'we're shutting down the Gamecube servers', I'll believe it. Until then, I don't believe people who try hoaxes.

And ST don't even have access to the private servers anyway do they?

No, ST would be too lazy to even mention it.

Really though, they should shutdown like half of those ships... there is never anyone on them... 3 ships for US, 3 for EU, and 5 for JP would work just fine... and then like 3 blocks on each ship... Maybe then, the could lower the HL cost. (I wish! )
