The only Katanas I've ever felt were worth getting (on GC anyway) were Sange and Yasha, simply for combining them.
And of course, on BB Shouren & Gouren = ;>

Katanas i find are way too slow. Also when i first tried to use one i could never get the third part of the combo in, so it took a bit of gettting used to.
