memory card issue

im having some trouble with my memory card. i chose the first option from the main menu then the 2nd option from the following menu. i was assuming that would lead me to some kind of character creation. then it gives me a message about the card in slot 1 and wont let me advance any farther. i have about 4.3mb free on my card. im i getting stoppped here because i havnt started the story mode or do i still need to free up more space on my mc?

I don't really know by heart what all the menus say, but, if you don't have any screenshots... just try all options I guess? :/
