They CAN be used online, but they take a party slot so unless you're playing solo and want some extra help, or just feel like filling some extra space then most don't use them, I think.

Cool so they can be used online then. Nice, like NPCs in FFXI, except in a game where you don't HAVE to party with a motley crew to level effectively.

Yes, you just send them away. I think, IDK someone with the game can tell you, I'm simply assuming.
