The ??? slot is for photons (elemental or not).
I don't need a signature pic, I would end up changing it all the time.

You can buy them from the synthessis shop (purple colored stores). Not a smart idea though, since you can only find elemental photons.
Basically, anytime you see "???" the game will give you a choice as to what exact item of that type to put in. In this particular case you can put in any sort of photon you wish to give the resulting item a corresponding element.

I think by the time you buy up all the components for that weapon you'd have spent enough meseta to have bought the best weapon from the shops right now
The product's a 2 or 3 star weapon?
I think you can buy up to 4 star weapons and craft up to 5 stars.

its a three star and yeah its not worth doing if its not as good as the weapons in the shop also i have an 8 star item which i dont think is a healing item
Now the question is how to remove the synth board without crafting the item
I wonder if there's a limit on how many boards you can have up at once.
As for 8 star item, hard to say what it is without more info, like which tab it's on, etc. You can probably find it on psupedia.
It was a healing item that revives and heals to full which should be sold in shops anyway o_o
Everything in that tab I sell for cash, except the PP recharging items.
