I'd like to know the company and/or companies name(s), and any person or persons that were responsible for the 360 server separation decision.

Whoever made this decision has got my attention, and I'm unbelievably #@$$ed off at them. This is going to screw up everything! Of course I'm not getting it for the PS2, but I did have to choose between the 360 version and the PC version and I was leaning for the 360 because of the voice chat! Also because the original PSO was on DC, and I thought it would be nice to go back to the console with PS. But they just had to #$@& it all up, didn't they? Some of my friends don't have a 360 and others do, and this is going to #$&@ up everything! Now I can't play PSU with them all!! I am seriously @#$$ed here...you wouldn't believe how mad I am about this...but anyway..

That turned into more of a rant then I initially intended, but still, does anyone have any information about this? I'd like to know who to be mad at, it won't do any good, but at least I won't be pointing blame at the wrong person.

Well if you feel that way then you should just get either both or get the PC version to be with your friends I think it was a good move that they did this as it seems like they will try new things this time instead of the failure that was PSO-X.

You can't always get what you want.

Seriously, the 360 server separation has been known for a very long, since about a week after the 360 version was announced.

The only specific thing I recall from interviews went something like this.

Microsoft insisted that the game runs in compliance with "Xbox Live" servers and all that jazz (voice chat etc.)

SEGA/ST cannot/willnot adapt to meet MSs demands (no voice chat on PS2) but allows the game to be released on the 360 anyway and lets MS handle thier servers, therefore, seperated.

Take it as you will, I observe the root of the problem is MS insisting the game have voice chat. I'm not saying having voice chat is necessarily bad, but a game like this is perfectly playable with a keyboard. Hell, PSO was fine to play with a virtual KB.

    I understand your frustration with the situation, but as long as you have alternative platforms, I don't quite understand why you are so angry >.>;;

Anyway, if it's between friends and voice chat (+$10 for the game, +needing XBL if you dont have it already), I don't see why one would pick the 360 version.

PS, we knew there were going to be complications with the 360 version, but I believe it was just recently CONFIRMED that it will be seperated.

And besides sometimes when you're in the heat of battle, voice chat is a viable solution. I mean, are you really going to drop the controller to say something when you're in the middle of the fight with Olga Flow?

dude either fork out the 125 bucs for a ps2 or stop complaining. i like the separation. if they allowed ps2,pc,and xbox 360 to all play together then we 360 wouldnt be able to use voice chat. ff11 is a perfect example.plus tons of psowers are gettin it on 360 including me.... make some new friends

Ok don't take this personally, but. Who cares that you're mad? The companies could care less, the message board could care less, and there are countless other people that could care less.

The separation is happening because Sega doesn't want to relinguish control of it's server to MSFTs standards when it comes to how Xbox Live is handled, and I don't blame MSFT for not wanting to conform.

This should come as NO surprise to anyone that played PSO for the Gamecube or the Xbox, so why people are surprise now is beyond me.

This is in no way going to fuck up anything because you still have plenty of options for playing this game and if you can't decide because you have friends that play on 360 or PS2 or PC then you all need to find a common ground and hash it out. Since the accounts are reversible for the PS2 and PC you shouldn't have to worry to much there, but for the friends that you have who play on the 360, you will have to make the decision of who you want to play with more.

I personally couldn't be happier that they are divided seeing as alot of people I knew from the Xbox and GC days are all on the 360 now, and with the launch of the EU version combining with the US version, that will only increase the size of the US/EU version of PSU.

In the end I think you will make your mind up, but in the mean time their is NO need to be angry because in the end it's a waste of your time and our time for having to read it.

I can pretty much agree with everything Eclypse said. You're only one of the few people who are pissed. I couldn't be happier that they seperated the servers, we get to be off in our own little world, without the crowded servers and such. Of course, I was debating about it being seperated before, but I don't really mind it. Voice chat is one of the main attributes to XBox Live, I'm sure the PS2 and PC users don't want to here us bickering and discussing strats and whatever else we talk about.

I speculated this with someone from psow recently. We discussed that though the PC and PS2 are capable of supporting voice chat, Sega/MS wanted/required PSU to be an "Xbox Live-enabled game".
My observation is that "XBL-enabled" games are only playable via an Xbox/Xbox360. Example: FFXI isn't "XBL-enabled". My thoughts are that Square Enix viewed the 360 version better connected with PC/PS2 than with the benifits of XBL.

the interview statements would make MS's XBL-enabled requirement more solid. Mind providing a url?

Edit: I think a good number of people have friends who will be playing on PC/PS2 so, it's fine to be upset about it. I believe it is possible to link all the platforms, but not preferred by MS/Sega.

It's certainly easier from a management perspective. However, I don't think it was done because it would have been easier to actually implement--I mean Square Enix basically ported Final Fantasy XI completely intact with no changes and little to no Xbox Live enhancements, so what they've done is definitely possible to do with other games.

I honestly don't believe Microsoft was doing any "insisting" to any party. Nor does it really matter what Microsoft or Sega's motives are, because it doesn't really change the current situation.

With that said, on the surface, it doesn't look like it would take too much work to eventually make the servers interoperable.

The root problem keeping everything separated would be data access/storage. How would PC/PS2 Player 1 access Xbox 360 Player 2's Room if they're on separate server systems? It's a similar situation situation to Japan's World 1 and World 2.

Gamertag replacing partner card number? Assign all registered gamertags a unique partner card number.

Microsoft Points/Xbox Live-based subscriptions? Aside from the login servers, the actual game doesn't have to care about or deal with anything of that nature.

Voice chat? Either disabled entirely when on PC/PS2 servers or just ignored by the PC/PS2 clients. The Xbox 360 client should warn users about it when jumping to a PC/PS2 Universe.

The fact the game is mostly server-side helps keep the door open for this sort of thing, really. I'd say it was definitely bridgable.

On the other hand, if actual server load became an issue as it did in Japan, then the separation could probably be viewed as a good thing.

Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the Universe, are challenged by this point of pale light. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves.
