I dont think that can be answered atm...
From what I heard rumor off...PS3 cant play PS2 games or something like that cuz of disk size.
Even if it does work, theres the problem of the online portion working on PS3.
Well, it's supposed to be backwards-compatible with all PSX and PS2 games, so you should be able to. Not that anyone in their right mind will buy the thing, anyway.

PS3's official backwards compatability list has yet to be released.
It is known however, as with any system with backwards compatability capabilities, that it will NOT be 100%.
The best anyone will be able to tell you right now is...

I also thought that they stated that it would be backwards compatable. This is what it says in one of my gaming mags that I bought several months ago anyway.
My bad, I meant they haven't announced the List of working games.
I remember hearing one thing about being able to download old games for the psx and put them onto your psp to play... and to be able to play them on your ps3 as well 'at some later date'.
From what I've read, don't count on backwards compatibility early on.
