A little help please?

I played and loved PSO on dreamcast, Played on gamecube, and ended with Xbox. I didnt exactly keep up with PSO afterwards. Now I want to pick PSU up but as of right now I wouldnt be able to play online because of my college's bs rules, Would it be worth it? Im interested in the Story mode but Im not sure if i want to buy it with no knowledge of the "Extra Mode" I believe it is...And just the offline leveling was one of my favorite parts of PSO. So can anyone help me out?

Basically Extra mode is like playing online except in PSU you can't play online with your offline character.

Right now theres actually an advantage to playing offline/extra mode since playing online you can only level to 50 right now whereas in extra mode you can level your character to 100, as well as use all sorts of crazy equipment/weapons that havn't been released yet on the online mode.
