The idea is that the Great Pumpkin was a fictional figure who Linus believed really existed, and sat outside singing its praises and holding a welcome sign and telling anybody who would listen that the non-existant Great Pumpkni really was real and would be showing up any moment.
It doesn't relate very well to PSU; we know the content is coming because anybody who's played the Japanese version has seen it; the only uncertainty here is when we'll get it. The spirit of the post, that Sega of America is not exactly making themselves look good, though, is something I can get behind.
The great pumpkin was the "santa claus" of Linus from the Peanuts, the cartoon shown above. Linus would sit in the pumpkin patch every holloween in hopes to witness the great pumpkin rise from the pumpkin patch and deliver presents to all the boys and girls who believed in him. Alas Linus never got to see the "TRUE" Great pumpkin although a few pranks or mishaps occured that would get Linuses hopes upm that he in fact, had seen It.
This was an attempt to point out our "child like faith" that anything good from the updates or that in fact updates would happen regardless.. is futile.
thus .. the punchline is broken..
well, at least for those of us that recognize the image get the joke before reading on
