Could my room mate and I both play at the same time? Like with each other? Even though her character and my character are on the same account?
I ask because I would love to do that (then we can stop arguing over whose turn it is) but I don't want to spend fifty bucks if it means that one of us has to make a new character.
I don't think you can log in with two people on the same account. So...probably not, unless you plan on having a second account for your room mate.
You don't even need a 2nd copy of the game, just use the disc you already have. The only thing you'll both need is separate accounts.
And very very likely no, you cannot play the same account at the same time. One of you will have to start over on a new account.
Use the same disc, but not the same ID.
