As I recall, that is technically the game's actual term for the Shironians, just as Kuronians mean "Black people" in the game. The English translators went with "Shironian" and "Kuronian" because it sounded cooler and less... controversial.

Its not even the first time the game has had unintentionally racist sounding terms like how Revelle (NPC on the far right of the Gate area that gives Darker-specific CO's) has a CO titled "Black Slaughter".... No wonder Hans hangs around the opposite where Revelle is.
