I just made mine up, in all seriousness. I don't base my characters from anything, as I don't want to model them after something else, rather I want to make a name for what I want.

Well. My three Ians are all based of me, or rather, the kind of person I wish I was. Although I'd probably be a FOmar before I'd be a FOnewm. ;-P Zero is loosely based off an alternate universe version of a fictional version of my boyfriend from a multi-author fanfic-type thing. Fluffy is what Ian-Kun's Rati would look like as a human. Helios got that way just because it looked cool. ELLY is, well, ELLY. She's my abuse drone. The 8th spot keeps changing, usually it's a HUcaseal, but sometimes it's a FOnewearl and sometimes it's a FOmar. I can't make up my mind. Doesn't usually get past L16 or so.

With the exception of Rizel, my FOnewearl, all names of mine are original. All character ideas of mine are original, with slight borrowings whenever I need a gap or two filled and my creativity's on low. Generally anything borrowed is made temporary, and is replaced with something I thought up.
