Reported on in English and Japanese, a maintenance occurred last night to clear up some recent issues. Officially, changes to one particular item have been noted.

The Kakwane Madog had various unintended parameters which have been corrected. Statistically, it has been upgraded in both the areas of PP and Tech. The weapon has had its rarity adjusted from 10 to 13 stars. Masterforces can now equip it, whereas they weren't able to before. It now has a description and can also be sold to NPC shops. Players may have to deposit the TCSM into their common box or partner machine and then retrieve it to update the item's details. This won't have an effect on the number of times the item has been upgraded.

-SHIRO- has already created a thread for discussion of this maintenance in the forums.

    Sonic figure
    Picture somewhat related

As reported on the Phantasy Star twitter and PSU's facebook page, Sonic and Tails will be making appearances around the game on June 23. Players can find them running around the (appropriately themed) lobbies and even playing missions!

GUARDIANS who say the phrase "Happy birthday Sonic" during the event will be rewarded with a Sonic room decoration (to be distributed at a later date).

A demo for Sonic Generations is also said to be releasing June 23. Finally, the figures depicted above are being produced in limited quantities and will supposedly be given out as a part of future contests and promotions related to this milestone for the franchise.

As seen on the event page for The Great Arms Race, active GUARDIANS have recently passed the halfway point in unlocking milestones. These include two new event missions! The following have been updated or added since the start of the event:

    • Weapon R&D Project: By reentering this mission after choosing a manufacturer, players can obtain current event details. These include an overview of the event, a tally of total creatures defeated, a player's chosen manufacturer, and descriptions of all available missions.
    • Seabed Echoes C-S3: GRM has created a mission which simulates out of control robots at a seabed plant.
    • Evolution's Path C-S3: Yohmei has created a mission which simulates wildlife attacking a lab.

This event will be running through July 14. Discussion continues in BIG OLAF's thread over at the forum!

Currently in the process of rolling out worldwide, the spring update for Xbox 360 brings a few new things to the console:

    • PayPal - Previously introduced in a limited capacity on Xbox.com, users will now be able to access PayPal on their consoles as a billing option. Several excluded regions are listed in the link above.
    • Auto-standby - A new option to reduce power consumption, this feature will put the console on standby if it is idle for over an hour. It will be active by default after obtaining the update, but it can be turned off in System Settings.
    • New disc format - This new format is not only said to improve copy protection, but it will also clear up disc space for developers. Reports say that it will result in an extra gigabyte available to use.

This update is said to be launching in waves over the next few days, so it may take some time to show up for most console owners.

PSOW???10?? PSO-World to Increase News Accuracy As lead news writer, it is my job to make sure that any information coming from Japan regarding Phantasy Star is presented without modification. Thus we will begin the process of only reporting updates in their original language. As it turns out, most updates are Japanese anyway. Using the advanced technology of Google Translate, I have been able to begin restoring news items to their original form. From whence they came as it were. For consistency purposes, I have also started converting the English news items. This should be of benefit to the understated Japanese population on the Xbox 360 version of PSU. I hope that everyone will be able to enjoy this new direction in which we will promptly be able to re-communicate exciting news without worrying about translation errors! PSOW: into the next decade

Noted in English and Japanese, PSU will be receiving another update this week. To start off, there will be a few changes and additions to GAS:

    • New base ability caps: 14 for Human, 12 for Newman, 8 for CAST, and 10 for Beast
    • New styles: High Enhanced Weapon, Common Specialty, Weapons Master, Quick Action, Ragan's Force, and Double Time

Many of the bonuses and rewards earned during Absolute Zero will also be implemented:

During this same time, the Valentine's Day seasonal lobbies and Rappy Amures will be posted along with the BT Box at the Variety Shop. All of this is scheduled to end with the current Neudaiz GBR on February 24. This pushes the initial event bonuses to be available for one more week than previously scheduled! It will still be possible to log in to collect the item rewards until March 30th at 11:59:59 PM PST. If a player's common box does not have sufficient space, they should move a few items and reload to obtain the rewards. The rest of the bonuses will be posted at a later date. Finally, there will be a Casino rotation from Goth to Modern.

Update: Rappy Amure now drops Valentine Chocolate. This will be tradable later on for 20 DP at RSD: Drop-off.

    2. Phantasy Star Universe (Japan)

As EspioKaos has reported on the forums, there are a couple of big news items for fans of the Gurhal series.

First up, SonicTeam has announced that the Japanese PlayStation 2 release of Ambition of the Illuminus will no longer be able to access Network Mode following March 31, 2011. From this point forward, a Japanese copy of AOTI for PC will be required to play online. Fortunately, a free-to-download version of the client is available and they will additionally be holding a campaign in April to further encourage the switch. It should be noted that players who do not wish to make the switch must cancel an auto-renewing account themselves.

As one might expect, this opens up the game to changes and additions that the developers may have been unwilling or unable to make in an attempt to continue supporting the PS2 version. Without delay, SonicTeam has also announced the so-called "update 3rd" will start in April 2011.

Those following Japan's happenings know that these free updates (and on occasion supplementary patches) contain additions to the client data past that which is found in AOTI. The first contained weapons and clothing from the first Phantasy Star Portable and later was collectively released under the banner of "GUARDIANS Advanced Content" for the Xbox 360 version. Appropriately, the second of these updates contained weapons, clothing, and even hairstyles from Phantasy Star Portable 2. While not much has been announced yet for update 3rd, teaser images have been released showing higher quality versions of areas formerly seen in PSP2 as well as a kind of enemy spawn yet unseen in PSU. A crossover event is also announced to be held with the upcoming Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity.

After all the requests for PSP2 content and features to be added to PSU, it should be exciting to see what else the developers might have in store for this and later updates.

The next major event to hit PSU on the Xbox 360 will be starting December 3!

Similar to Operation Firebreak, this event requires Guardians to do their best to purify unnaturally cold and dark environments. Players will be given Photon Reflectors to assist with the task. It should be noted that this event takes place not in the present, but between Chapters 3 and 4 of Episode 3.

Previewed recently by GM Edward@Sega, this event has now been detailed on the English and Japanese homepages. The following components are slated to appear:

    • Absolute Zero - Event Prologue Mission
    • Defrosting Guide - Event Tutorial Mission
    • Frozen Flowers (C-S2) - Main Event Mission
    • Frigid Challenge (C-S2) - Bonus Mission (Time Challenge)
    • Ice Crystal Exchange - Item Exchange Mission
    • Hit the Counter! - Bonus Mission (Milestone Rewards)
    • Mission Launch Post - Recruitment Mission

All of these missions can be found on the 5th floor of the GUARDIANS Colony and will be available until January 20. A special event site will be made available for the event to track point gains and reveal panel rewards consisting of new event content and post-event bonuses.

Additionally, Christmas is on its way to PSU! The seasonal lobbies will be in place until midnight PST on December 26. Remember that Rappy Noels will be dropping Christmas Trees during this time. However, the seasonal items sold at the Variety Shop (Christmas, Wreath, and Xmas Box) will still be available through January 20. A rotation from the Goth set to the Modern set will also take place at Casino Voloyal.

A discussion of this announcement is already taking place in the forums.

Update: The English and Japanese versions of the special event site have been posted.
