psosaladwood writes, "Sorry folks, but we had to restart the PSOW Valentine's Event just to be safe. But it turns out Gamespy messed up somewhere with whatever server cluster we're on. So you get 3 cards to send out, get out there and scream out your love!

Also, there is no update to the banning problem. We called the Sega Tech Support line today and they have on definite fix date. The problem is still being moved along and supposedly I'll be getting a call back when it is fixed.

Have fun now that PSOW is up and running again. We apologize for the downtime. If anyone is having account problems, AIM me from my profile.

psosaladwood writes, "Gamespy, gave a interesting preview into XBox PSO today. Gamespy seems to feel that it will be the best version of PSO out there. Gamespy also says that the XBox chat features really makes up for the fact that there is no keyboard on the GC.

Funny enough, there is a little mention of the current GC problems:

"One of the areas in which all previous editions of PSO have lagged behind is security; the recent GameCube version implemented changes that made the game less susceptible to cheating, but more susceptible to having your character deleted. Hopefully the closed network nature of Xbox Live (and the hard drive within the unit) will allow Sonic Team to keep the experience much more seamless. A great weakness of the games is that your characters are stored on the client side and not the server, which allows shenanigans aplenty. To surmount this flaw, the Xbox version only allows you to go online when your character is safely on the hard drive; you can copy it off and take it to a pal's for split-screen action, but if you want to go online the temp file must be moved back to the HD."

They also touch on the XBox exclusive quests:

"New quests developed by Sonic Team will arrive on the Xbox simultaneously with the release of the GC versions; previously existing quests won't be up to snuff on the game's release, though -- probably because most PSO quests are based around holidays or special events. For security reasons, and doubtlessly also because of the voice chat, U.S. users will be unable to play with Japanese players."

They also mentioned and confirmed the fact that you'll need an XBox live account to even play offline "due to the fact that the software was the XBL pack-in in Japan -- they didn't want to delay it for reprogramming reasons, which is definitely a serious concern."

psosaladwood writes, "I, yet again, called Sega's Customer Service support line.

According to them, the last server update should have fixed the problems, and they haven't been getting any new calls about people having FSOD or character corruption problems related to the double save process. So if you're still experiencing problems, please, PLEASE, let them know.

psosaladwood writes, "According to Sega of America customer support [(716) 650-6701], today's server maintenance was, in part, to help with the duping, FSOD, character corruption, and double save process. He did not know if it was a complete fix or if it was just just a single step in trying to correct things.

This has also been confirmed by flux-equals-rad in this thread.

    UPDATE: 2-6-03

I called the Sega of America [(716) 650-6701] yet again.

They are aware that the last patch was an attempt to fix the problem, however they do not know if it really fixed it or not.

I urge all that can spare a toll call to call this number and ask about this problem, and demand answers to when it will be fixed.

psosaladwood writes, "This was posted on the US Sega message boards this morning:

"This post is for anyone who has recently lost a character due to a corrupted file. Please email our customer support team using the form in the help section. Provide as much detail as possible: exactly when did the corruption happen, where in the game did it happen, what type of memory card are you using, what type of connection (BB/modem). We would like to collect as much information as possible to resolve this issue.

    Thanks for you help.

psosaladwood writes, "We contacted the (512)-231-2429 Sega Customer Support number again. As of now, Sega is fully aware of the problem and is currently trying to solve it as fast as they can. They do not have an estimated time for when this problem will be fixed, and are very sorry for any inconvenience.

That's pretty much all they had to say. I'm assuming you are still playing at your own risk. Although, less people have been affected by this since they modified the double save method.

psosaladwood writes, "I just called Sega of America tech support, twice. According to two different Sega of America tech support people, they are unaware of any FSOD problems, and aren't aware of any "double-saving process." They'll have to "look into it and call back."

If they do call back, I'll post what their response is.

If you would like to call Sega of America tech support, the number is (716)650-6701. It is also in the manual. Please be aware of long distance charges if you're not in their area. Maybe, if more people call and work together, it'll alert them on the urgency of the problem and get them to post an official comment. If you can't call and would like to voice your opinion, use the Sega Customer Service Online Form on the Sega website.

Check this thread for the ongoing discussion. One of our members, thewiredknight claims to have talked to a Sega tech support person that said that they are aware of the problem and are trying to fix the FSOD's without removing the double save method. However, we cannot vouch for the validity of this news since we did not make the call and we had conflicting results.

So let's hope that they do call back with some news.
