A copy and past review from people who dont seem to have actually played the game.

While its unique multiplayer gameplay raises the bar for the Dreamcast’s online capabilities, Phantasy Star Online is nothing more than a watered-down role-playing game that will disappoint both RPG enthusiasts and fans of the Phantasy Star series. While PSO may triumph in originality, it lacks depth—especially as an RPG. The story is extremely basic without any character development, and if it wasn’t for the ability to level up, the game would be in the hack-n-slash, beat-em-up genre. Additionally, you can’t attack while moving even though combat is in real-time. The game also has some draw-in, and, because the controls are a little loose, targeting specific enemies can become a chore.

Don’t expect Phantasy Star Online to be an epic RPG or an inspirational continuation of the famed series. Instead, it’s an intelligent online rumpus meant to create teamwork among Dreamcast owners without archaeology.

GRAPHICS 4.0 PSO is filled with lush environments inhabited by gangs of odd-looking creatures. Smoothly animated characters are clothed in colorful garb, while the visual effects, like magic spells and explosions, dazzle the eyes. But there’s still draw-in, and level layouts are too linear.

SOUND 4.0 The game has a simple soundtrack consisting of pleasant tunes and minimal sound effects. Enemies, however, hardly make any noise, and there are no voice-overs.

CONTROLS 3.5 Communicating online with your teammates is a cinch. During battle, however, you can’t attack while moving, and targeting specific enemies can become tedious due to the loose controls.

FUN FACTOR 3.5 Although PSO contains basic RPG elements, don’t count on a deep story and non-linear gameplay. It’s straightforward, hack-n-slash combat online or off. But you must jump online, however, to get the full experience of what the Dreamcast is capable of doing

It seems the problem with the server wasn't fixed last night, because I noticed it starting back up just a little while ago. It appears that the site is getting overloaded with traffic, but it might just be a problem with one of the scripts that we use.Whatever the case, we're going to be working on getting it fixed... but there's no telling how long it's going to take to figure out the problem, so bear with us.

Until the problem is resolved, you might notice slow load times or get errors when accessing the site. If this happens, wait for a little while and give it another try. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Update 5:45AM Fixed! Or so we think.. . If anyone notices the same problems we had last night, please.. [email protected]>email us. Also, during the repairs we managed to sneak a few other fixes/additions. First of all the email notification in the forums is fixed, so all future topics creators who do not want to be notified of responses will not be.

    Now for the additions:
All usernames in memberlist should link to their profile. The SectionID calculator got a few backend updates. And there have been minor cosmetic changes to a few sections of the site. Let us know if you experience any other problems.

Sometimes the boxes are surrounded by a blue force field which must be shut off in the same room by a switch on one of the room's walls."

I'm kinda' iffy about that. It's nice they just don't mark cancel on their subscribers , but I'd rather have my money back!

Now I've seen it all folks. You can truly by anything on online auctions. Yahoo Japan, famous for selling damn near anything now has Phantasy Star Online items up for grabs. Most of them starting at 500 yen, and not really going, it doesn't really catch ones eye. But one items like a Twin Brand goes for 9,000 yen, and a Holy Lay goes for over 30,000 yen, you start to wonder. (GODFREE From PSO)

Ebay is not free from the PSO auctions, everything from double sabers.. to 5,000 meseta?

Spectre54 writes, "Hey guys, your most active news submitter is back after a long hiatus (playing PSO). It seems that sega is working on a means to stop the great amounts of cheating that have been going on in PSO servers. Sega is working on using meseta monitering, and game duration screening. The server might look at the time you played your game, if your a lvl 100 and you've only played for 4 hours....well your busted. Also in the news: Gun Valkyrie is stated for a Q4 2001 release as one of the last DC games (along with Shenmue 2). G.V is a game that finally utilizes the lightgun's D-pad, you can move your character and shoot with your gun at the same time! Sega is (as always) the first to inovate this unique concept. Long Live Sega!"
