Episode 1 Chapter 2: Typical Lives

Ethan's Room
---------------------
(Cutscene)
(Ethan Waber lies asleep in his bed. We see from GHX005's point of view as he approaches Ethan. Information about Ethan displays on his HUD)
--GHX005: Good morning, sir. Rise and shine.
--Ethan: Unnh...
--GHX005: Master Waber, it's time to wake up.
--Ethan: Hrm? Unh... Aaah! Who the heck are you?!
--GHX005: Good morning, Master Waber. I am GHX005. As of today, I have the honor of being in your service. Let me be the first to congratulate you on graduating from training school.
(Ethan sits up an yawns deeply)
--Ethan: Uh, thanks.
(Ethan stands and walks towards the Dressing Room)
--GHX005: Master Waber, if you get ready soon, you will be late for orientation.
--Ethan: I know. I know. Let me at least wash my face, okay? Uh...
--GHX005: I am GHX005, master.
--Ethan: Now how am I supposed to remember that? I know! From now on, I'm calling you "Pete."
(Ethan enters the Dressing Room)
--Pete: Pete...? Pete.
--Ethan: That's right Pete. It's the name of an old pet I used to have.
--Pete: Understood! I shall be known as Pete, Master Waber!
--Ethan: Please, just call me Ethan, alright?
--Pete: Your only appointment for today is the GUARDIANS orientation.
(Ethan exits the Dressing Room)
--Ethan: Oh... Yeah... That's great except I just got here, and uh, I barely know which way is up. Wanna clue me in?
(End Cutscene)

(Cutscene)
(Ethan activates the nano-transformer on his back. Light emanates from it and showers over his body. When it subsides he is fully clothed)
(End Cutscene)

--Ethan: Pete, there's a lot you need to teach me about this place.
--Pete: Certainly, Master Waber. What sort of things do you wish to hear about?
---(About this Room)
--Pete: These are the standard lodging prepared for GUARDIANS members. And as such, these are your private quarters, Master Waber. Are they to your liking?
--Ethan: Yeah, it's all right here. It is sort of drab, though.
--Pete: You are permitted to decorate this space as you see fit.
--Ethan: Interesting.
--Pete: This is your photon wave communications device, also known as a "vision phone." It allows you to contact GUARDIANS Headquarters as well as your Guardian comrades.
--Ethan: I see.
---(About Pete)
--Pete: Inside of the GUARDIANS lodgings, a partner machine, like me, is furnished. Our task is to support our Guardian masters in their daily lives.
--Ethan: Support?
--Pete: Yes. For example, when information is received from GUARDIANS Headquarters... It's my job to sort out your schedule and provide you with pertinent advice. This is my primary duty... ...to ensure that you are able to accomplish your tasks swiftly and smoothly.
--Ethan: Really...
--Ethan (thinking): (In other words, a fancy alarm clock?)
--Pete: Master Waber?
--Ethan: Yeah, go on.
--Pete: In addition, I am provided with numerous other functionalities... Which I will explain as they become necessary.
--Ethan: Okay.
---(About Field Training)
--Pete: You are a graduate of the GUARDIANS Training School... But that by itself isn't sufficient to become an official member of the GUARDIANS. After a few months of training under an active-duty Guardian, you may become a certified member of the GUARDIANS.
--Ethan: Yeah, I know that much. But what exactly will I be doing in training?
--Pete: Training is comprised of actual missions. I believe your first mission will be on Planet Parum.
--Ethan: Really? I've always wanted to see Parum!
---(About Parum)
--Pete: Your field training will commence on Parum. Parum is a planet that is under CAST control. The government, bureaucracy, and most official functions... ... are all operated by CASTs. Originally, Parum was a planet rich in natural abundance. However, due to the warring, much of the planet was devastated. Much of what remains was created artificially. Tarcus City was made the capital under the Tripartite Alliance Treaty. However, the economic center of the planet is Holtes City. Incidentally, there are approximately 1 billion humans on Parum... versus the 100 million throughout the rest of the solar system. There are approximately 50 million CASTs on Parum... with 50 million others scattered throughout the rest of the solar system.
--Ethan: A CAST-run planet!
---(Ask Later)
--Ethan: Thanks for the help, Pete.
--Pete: You're welcome, Master Waber. Your first field training is scheduled for today. Upon leaving the lodgings, you'll arrive at the central table on the first floor of Clyez City. From there, make your way to the GUARDIANS Headquarters on the fifth floor. There you will receive information about your first mission.
--Ethan: That's right, I'd better hurry.
--Pete: Just one moment, Master Waber. Your are currently using your nano transformer, correct?
--Ethan: Yeah, I'm using it. It's controlled by this thing... attached to the back of my neck. I used it before when I changed clothes, right?
--Pete: Indeed. The nano transformer is a very useful device. It has the ability to hold and abundance of items and equipment. But there is a limit to the number of items it can hold. If it becomes overstocked, I am able to take care of extra items and equipment. Please instruct me whenever you find it necessary.
(Pete's storage ability is unlocked)
--Pete: Master Waber, as it's your first day, your promptness is of the utmost importance. As soon as you have finished getting ready, please be on your way.
--Ethan: Didn't I tell you to call me Ethan?
--Pete: My apologies... Ethan.
--Ethan: All right then, I'm off!
---(Talk to Pete again)
--Pete: Today is your first day of field training. Please hurry to the GUARDIANS Headquarters on the fifth floor.
---(Pete Menu Sensitive Dialog)
--Pete: I can store items or Meseta for you. You can take items or Meseta from storage. You haven't given me anything to store. You can access my support functions. Is there something you wish to know about?

(Vision Phone)

--Text: Welcome to the GUARDIANS! Your first mission will take place today on Parum. For further details, please visit the GUARDIANS Headquarters on the fifth floor of Clyez City.

Clyez City: Central Table: First Floor
----------------------------------------------------------
--Ethan: It's been three months. The central table looks completely restored. Well, off to the GUARDIANS Headquarters...

(Arsh Milzu)
--Ethan: Huh? Mrs. Milzu? It's been a long time. It's me, Ethan!
--Mrs. Milzu: Oh hello, Ethan! I heard you've joined the GUARDIANS.
--Ethan: Where did you hear that?
--Mrs. Milzu: Your sister told me.
--Ethan: Oh. Yeah.
---(Again)
--Ethan: Mrs. Milzu! We run into each other a lot, don't we?
--Mrs. Milzu: We do. Maybe because I've got nothing better to do than wander around. But aren't you busy?
--Ethan: Yeah, I've been pretty busy!
---(Again)
--Mrs. Milzu: You're still in training, right? Won't you get in trouble if you're caught standing around?

(Old Man)
--Ethan: Huh? Did you say something?
--Old Man: Yeah, I did. You're Ethan Waber, aren't you?
--Ethan: Huh? Have we met?
--Old Man: Nah, I just remember hearing you getting yelled at during training!
---(Again)
--Ethan: Are you a Guardian?
--Old Man: What're you asking me questions for? You trying to get on my good side? Forget about it!
--Ethan: Uh, not really...
---(Again)
--Old Man: You're a Guardian, right? You'd better train more!

(Male Beast)
--Male Beast: The Divine Maiden hasn't made very many public appearances recently. I've been thinking of giving up the Gurhal Faith.
---(Again)
--Male Beast: Oh Divine Maiden... Won't you come show us the way?

(Gapard Raz)
--Ethan: I've seen you around here a lot. What is it you're always doing?
--Gapard: Nothing, really.
--Ethan: I see. Well, my name is Ethan Waber, and I'm a Guardian, as you can see.
--Gapard: Yeah, I see that.
--Ethan: What about you?
--Gapard: I'm Gapard Raz.
--Ethan: Nice to meet you!
---(Again)
--Ethan: Didn't we meet at the ceremony?
--Gapard: Did we now?
--Ethan: Yeah, I think we did. Anyway, that was a pretty big surprise, wasn't it?
--Gapard: What was?
--Ethan: The SEED, man, the SEED. Those crazy flying objects!
--Gapard: Oh. Oh yeah.
---(Again)
--Gapard: What now?
--Ethan: Uh, nothing...

(Newman Male)
--Newman Male: Three months have passed since those things dropped from the sky. Other than deciding to call them SEED, there doesn't seem to be much progress in figuring them out, let alone in stopping them! There are more SEED dropping on each planet every day! Even the GUARDIANS are being dragged all over the place in an attempt to contain them.
---(Again)
--Newman Male: When will all this chaos come to an end?

(Human Male)
--Human Male: It's been over three months since the SEED incident. There've been no words of hope from the Divine Maiden or the Holy Light. I can't help but feel a certain anxiety about what's to come. The future looks so very dark. I may cry.
---(Again)
--Human Male: I can't shake this feeling of anxiety of what's to come. *Sniff!* Hold me!

Clyez City: Shopping Mall A: Second Floor
---------------------------------------------------------------------
(Kumil Godes)
--Kumil: Hey! You're a Guardian, right? That's so cool!
--Ethan: Thanks, but you shouldn't talk to random strangers like that!
--Kumil: Well then, let's become friends! I'm Kumil Godes.
--Ethan: Oh well... I'm Ethan Waber. Nice to meet you, Kumil! I'll bet your father is in the GUARDIANS, too, isn't he?
--Kumil: How did you know that?
--Ethan: Because you aren't afraid of me!
--Kumil: Yeah, but Guardians are so easygoing.
--Ethan: Oh, I guess we are.
---(Again)
--Kumil: My dad's pretty cool, too!
--Ethan: Really? Maybe I'll meet him someday.

(Engineer)
--Engineer: Hey! You... You're a Guardian trainee, aren't you? Did you get your partner machine yet? Be careful you don't make the mistake of thinking CASTs and machines are the same! First off, there's the system nucleus. The "intellect" chips used are completely different. There are numerous restrictions placed on machines, especially when compared to CASTs!
---(Again)
--Engineer: I'm a machinery engineer. If there's ever anything you want to know about machines, please don't hesitate to ask!

(Mikua Tesran)
--Mikua: Hey, Ethan! It's been a long time!
--Ethan: Huh!? Mikua! It's been like a year, hasn't it?
--Mikua: I heard a rumor you've gotten a job. Is it true?
--Ethan: Yeah. Actually, I joined the GUARDIANS.
--Mikua: Wow, that's pretty unexpected!
--Ethan: I'm still in training, though.
---(Again)
--Ethan: Don't you think there are a lot more people around here than there used to be?
--Mikua: It's probably because the colony is so safe; at least, more than anywhere else. With the SEED troubles, the number of people immigrating seems to have increased.
--Ethan: You sure seem to know a lot!
--Mikua: And you don't know enough!
--Ethan: Haven't changed a bit, have you, Mikua?
---(Again)
--Mikua: Don't mind me, just get to work!

(Human Girl)
--Human Girl: Ever since the SEED disturbance, so many of the Linear Lines have been shut down. It's really a hassle. I wish they'd hurry up and finish repairs!
---(Again)
--Human Girl: I wonder if they'll ever finish repairs on the Linear Line?

(Fat Man)
--Fat Man: The Koltova from Raffon Meadow are the best! You can't get that kind of quality in the colony. I always look forward to my trips to Parum.
---(Again)
--Fat Man: But because of the SEED, luxury travel is restricted. To a regular guy like me who just likes traveling, it's a nightmare!

(Nano Transformer Fan)
--Nano Transformer Fan: Hey, hold up! Your nano transformer... It's even better than my top-of-the-line model! And it looks like it has better capacity, too! It's a GUARDIANS-specific model, isn't it? I gotta have it!
---(Again)
--Nano Transformer Fan: I want one of those... Maybe I should join the GUARDIANS, too?

(Mefon Lead)
--Ethan: Did you say something?
--Mrs. Lead: I said "good luck." You're a Guardian, aren't you?
--Ethan: Yeah...
--Mrs. Lead: My son is in the GUARDIANS, too!
--Ethan: Really? Oh, I'm Ethan Waber.
--Mrs. Lead: I'm Mefon Lead. Pleased to meet you!
---(Again)
--Ethan: Hello, Mrs. Lead! So tell me about your son.
--Mrs. Lead: He's assigned to Moatoob so he doesn't come home much.
--Ethan: What's his name?
--Mrs. Lead: His name is Jonb and he's been with the GUARDIANS for five years now. Maybe you'll run into him sometime!
--Ethan: Yeah, maybe.
---(Again)
--Mrs. Lead: If you run into my son, tell him I said hello!

----Weapon Shop
---------------------------
--Photon Art Master: I've been researching photon arts for many years. Research becomes an accomplishment when you can convey it to others. If there's anything you want to know about photon arts, let me know!
(Photon Art tutorial)
--Photon Art Master: If there's anything you'd like to know, feel free to ask at any time!
(Note: This character's dialog doesn't change, and is omitted from later chapters in the script)

---Armor Shop
----------------------
--Shield Line Fanatic: I'm a confessed line shield maniac! When it comes to line shield knowledge, I won't lose to anyone! If you think I'm lying, go ahead! Ask me anything!
(Armor tutorial)
--Shield Line Fanatic: You can come make use of my vast knowledge anytime!
(Note: This character's dialog doesn't change, and is omitted from later chapters in the script)

Clyez City: Shopping Mall B: Third Floor
----------------------------------------------------------------
(Scene: Ethan, Lumia)
(Upon arriving on the third floor, Ethan spots Lumia waiting for him)
--Ethan: Hey, Lumia!
--Lumia: Oh, Ethan! Why haven't you called me?
--Ethan: Sorry, Sis. I've just been so busy training.
--Lumia: Yeah right!
--Ethan: It's strange to see you out here all by yourself. What's up?
--Lumia: Well, you never called or anything... so I asked about you at the GUARDIANS Headquarters. They said you moved into the GUARDIANS lodgings in Clyez City yesterday.
--Ethan: Oh. Makes sense, I guess.
--Lumia: I still don't understand why you wanted to become a Guardian all of a sudden. You always hated them.
--Ethan: It's sort of a long story. Let's talk about this later. I still haven't figured out all my own thoughts on the matter.
--Lumia: Okay, fine... Let me know when you're ready to share, then.
--Ethan: I'm sorry, Lumia... It's not like I've even officially joined the GUARDIANS yet. My training starts today. I won't get my license and become a real Guardian for a while.
--Lumia: Really? Huh... I wonder if you'll actually make it, then.
--Ethan: Me? Of course! You know me. I can always take care of myself.
(End Scene)

(Lumia Waber)
--Lumia: Where's your first field training?
--Ethan: It's on Parum.
--Lumia: Are you nervous?
--Ethan: yeah, a little bit. No matter how many simulations you watch, you're never really prepared for the real thing. What's it really gonna be like out there, on a planet?
--Lumia: I've never been off the colony either. Bring me back a souvenir or something, okay?
--Ethan: Yeah, sure.
---(Again)
--Lumia: Bring me back a souvenir, okay?

(Mischec Pord)
--Mischec: Hello! What's your name?
--Ethan: I'm Ethan, Ethan Waber.
--Mischec: I'm Mischec Pord. My dad is a Guardian, too. He works on Moatoob.
--Ethan: I see... Nice to meet you! What's your father's name?
--Mischec: Mayton Pord.
--Ethan: ...
--Mischec: Do you know him?
--Ethan: Well, I only just joined the GUARDIANS, so...
--Mischec: Really?
---(Again)
--Mischec: Maybe I'll introduce you to my dad one of these days!

(A-Photon Fanatic)
--A-Photon Fanatic: You can't go into the GUARDIANS with any half-baked notions. Understand? You must be willing to sacrifice your life, even to help a complete stranger!
---(Again)
--A-Photon Fanatic: Never forget what's important!

(Photon Fanatic)
--Photon Fanatic: The Gurhal Faith worships the Holy Light. In other words, photons. Photons are the source of the billions of life forms that saturate our galaxy. Worshipers live every day to give thanks to the Holy Light. Well, that's the idea, anyway.
---(Again)
--Photon Fanatic: The Divine Maiden must bear the burden of listening to the voices of the Holy Light. So they say.

(Astronomer)
--Astronomer: Where exactly did the SEED come from? I am utterly fascinated by the subject! Of course, when I think of all the victims who died in the SEED invasion... I think I should probably be a bit more sensitive about the matter.
---(Again)
--Astronomer: Even now, astronomers are scouring the solar system searching for the origins of the SEED. I am utterly riveted!

(Endy Fodz)
--Endy: Hey, Ethan!
--Ethan: Oh hi, Endy! You're looking well. How is training going?
--Endy: They assigned me a partner and are sending me right off on a field mission.
--Ethan: I can't believe we're gonna be Guardians!
---(Again)
--Endy: What do I have to do to get a GUARDIANS license?
--Ethan: At the very least you've got to go on missions on all three planets.
--Endy: Which one of us do you think will finish first? I'll bet I get my license first!
---(Again)
--Ethan: I've got to get going. See you later!

---Clothes Shop
------------------------
--Male Attendant: Here are our men's clothes.
--Ethan (thinking): I don't have time right now to worry about being fashionable...

--Female Attendant: These are our women's clothes. I'm sorry sir, but these clothes are for women only!

----Parts Shop
---------------------
--Both Attendants: This is a CAST-parts shop. I'm sorry, but these parts are CAST-only.

Clyez City: Fourth Floor: PPT Spaceport
----------------------------------------------------------------
(Male Beast)
--Male Beast: I see you're planning to go to Parum, is that right? And more than that, it's your first time traveling to the planets, yes? Shall I tell you about Parum, then? When one thinks of Parum, one can't help but thinking of the koltova. If you find yourself in a cafe, be sure to order a tall glass of koltova juice!
---(Again)
--Male Beast: You got it? Koltova juice. Don't forget!

(Porsh Tuvol)
--Ethan: Are you a newcomer, too?
--Porsh: You can tell? it's only been one week since I got my assignment!
--Ethan: I'm Ethan Waber. I just joined the GUARDIANS myself. Nice to meet you!
--Porsh: Nice to meet you, too. I'm Porsh Tuvol.
---(Again)
--Ethan: Hey, Porsh. Are you still in training, too?
--Porsh: No, I just changed jobs, but I'm hardly still in training.
--Ethan: Oh, sorry...
--Porsh: Don't worry about it. It's not like you can glean a lot from my appearance.
---(Again)
--Porsh: Excuse me. I'm currently working...

(Jabutz Secbel)
(Jabutz appears after you've visited the Guardians HQ)
--Jabutz: What's wrong? First time on a PPT Shuttle?
--Ethan: Huh? What do you mean?
--Jabutz: Don't worry. I've yet to have a single accident with any of the shuttles I take care of.
--Ethan: Are you the maintenance man?
--Jabutz: Don't call me that! I'm Jabutz Secbel, the Chief Manager of Operations!
---(Again)
--Ethan: Operations Manager Sacbel... er no.. Chief Maintenance...
--Jabutz: Chief Manager of Operations! Get it right!
--Ethan: Sorry...
---(Again)
--Jabutz: What are you doing? Hurry up and board! You've got a mission, right?

(PPT Gate Attendants)
-----------------------------------
(Note: These characters' dialog doesn't change, and are omitted from later chapters in the script)
--Neudaiz PPT Gate Attendant: This is the PPT gate for the planet Neudaiz. Currently, due to the SEED invasion, travel is restricted. Those without permission will not be allowed to board.
(If you try to enter the gate)
--Neudaiz PPT Gate Attendant: You do not have clearance to travel to Planet Neudaiz. You may not pass.

--Moatoob PPT Gate Attendant: This is the PPT gate for the planet Moatoob. Currently, due to the SEED invasion, travel is restricted. Those without permission will not be allowed to board.
(If you try to enter the gate)
--Moatoob PPT Gate Attendant: You do not have clearance to travel to Planet Moatoob. You may not pass.

--Parum PPT Gate Attendant: This is the PPT gate for the planet Parum. Currently, due to the SEED invasion, travel is restricted. Those without permission will not be allowed to board.
(If you try to enter the gate)
--Parum PPT Gate Attendant: You do not have clearance to travel to Planet Parum. You may not pass.

--Spaceport PPT Gate Attendant: This is the spaceport gate. Currently, due to the SEED invasion, travel is restricted. Individuals without permission are not allowed to board.

--Linear Line PPT Gate Attendant: Due to the incident with the SEED, a major section of the Linear Line collapsed. Restoration efforts have yet to be completed and so the line is regrettably off limits.

--PPT Information Counter Attendant: Welcome, and thank you for choosing the PPT Spaceport! This is the information counter for our PPT Shuttle service. Is there something you'd like to know about?
(Ask about TTB Company)
--PPT Information Counter Attendant: The TTB Company was established by the three planetary governments as a joint investment over one hundred years ago as a result of the Tripartite treaty. We carry out the management of public transportation facilities like vector tracks, linear lines, an G-Flyers, as well as new institutions.
(Ask about PPT)
--PPT Information Counter Attendant: PPT stands for "Planetary Passenger Transporter." The PPT connects the colony with the three planets Parum, Moatoob, and Neudaiz. These planets cannot be reached without passing through the colony. As such, the colony acts as a relay point for all three planets.
(Ask about Vector Tracks)
--PPT Information Counter Attendant: Vector Tracks were developed by the TTB Company. They are a system designed to support the expansion of the space traffic network in the Gurhal System. Driven by the Photon Drive System. Vector Tracks allow travelers to move quickly, comfortably, and safely between the three planets, and the GUARDIANS Colony. All forms of public and private transportation rely on Vector Tracks.
(Nothing Really)
--PPT Information Counter Attendant: Have a pleasant trip!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(Keiko Rotta)
--Keiko: You're in the GUARDIANS, correct?
--Ethan: Yeah, I'm Ethan Waber.
--Keiko: I didn't ask for your name. I'd just prefer it if you didn't wander around here. This is a controlled area.
---(Again)
--Ethan: Hm... Interesting spaceport...
--Keiko: If you spend all your time gawking, you'll miss your flight. Get going!
---(Again)
--Keiko: With the current state of affairs, I sure wish the GUARDIANS would straighten up!

Clyez City: Guardians Headquarters: Fifth Floor
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
(Reporter)
--Reporter: You're with the GUARDIANS, aren't you? I'm a correspondent with "Gurhal Channel 5"! This is the first time I've been on location. I'm going to accompany the GUARDIANS. I look forward to working with you!
---(Again)
--Reporter: I look forward to working with you!

(Fisul Godes)
--Ethan: Hell, sir!
--Mr. Godes: Hello there! Are you a new recruit?
--Ethan: I'm Ethan Waber, from the Mobile Defense Force. Nice to meet you!
--Mr. Godes: I'm Fisul Godes, with the Resident Security Department. It's a pleasure to meet you, too!
--Ethan: Thank you, sir!
---(Again)
--Ethan: Mr. Godes, have you been with the GUARDIANS for a long time?
--Mr. Godes: I've been with them for some twenty years now... So yes! I stay mostly indoors these days... but in my younger years they flew me all over the solar system! If you ever run into any problems, let me know!
--Ethan: Thank you!
---(Again)
--Mr. Godes: Guardians shouldn't stand around talking too long!

(Human Male)
--Human Male: You grew up on the colony, didn't you? I can tell by your muscles. There are a lot of differences between the colony and solid ground. here, there's no such thing as discrimination, but thing on Parum are a little different. It might be strange, but you'll want to be prepared for hostility.
---(Again)
--Human Male: When you arrive on Parum, be ready for anything.

(Guardians Information Attendant)
--Guardians Information Attendant: Here at the GUARDIANS, one of our goals is to make sure people are familiar and comfortable with the GUARDIANS organization. Is there something you'd like to know about?
(Ask about GUARDIANS)
--Guardians Information Attendant: The GUARDIANS are proud to be the largest private security company in the Gurhal System. Gurhal does have a system-wide public sector police force charged with maintaining order, but that police force alone doesn't have the resources to cover the entire system. That is why private-sector firms, such as the GUARDIANS, have also been given police powers, limited to the defense of clients.
(Ask about GUARDIANS organization)
--Guardians Information Attendant: The "Mobile Defense Force" are GUARDIANS who are dispatched throughout the planets in response to requests from clients. The "Resident Security Department" guards the colony facilities. The "GUARDIANS Intelligence Section" carries out classified investigations. The organization that develops the specials equipment used by the GUARDIANS is called "GUARDIANS Research & Development". You are a member of the "GUARDIANS Mobile Defense Force."
(Ask about a GUARDIAN)
--Guardians Information Attendant: A "GUARDIAN" is a member of the GUARDIANS. Guardians join voluntarily. Applications are accepted at any of our branches. After an applicant passes our aptitude test, they enter training school. After graduation, an instructor helps with on-the-job training. Then the applicant becomes an official Guardian. At this point, the Guardian can accept missions.
(Ask about Missions)
--Guardians Information Attendant: GUARDIANS missions are primarily commissioned by private individuals. Accepted commissions are then assigned to the Guardian(s) that would best be suited to carry out said mission. A Guardian is granted police authority while undertaking a mission. In addition, the Guardian is allowed to move freely between the planets. Upon successful completion of a mission, a remuneration is paid to the participating Guardian(s). Principal duties include escorting individuals and the defense of institutions. There is a wide variety of requests that are handled by the GUARDIANS. The past few months have seen a flood of commissions involving the SEED.
(Nothing Really)
--Guardians Information Attendant: Please feel free to ask again at any time!
(Note: This character's dialog doesn't change, and is omitted from later chapters in the script)

--Type Select Counter Assistant: This is the type selection counter. You are currently not approved to change types. I'm sorry. Please feel free to return when you have received approval.

(Scene: Ethan, Mina)
--Mina: Welcome to the headquarters of the GUARDIANS, protector of Gurhal's future! Are you here to make a request? Or to pick one up?
--Ethan: Actually, I'm here for my field training. I was told to come here.
--Mina: I see. Well then, may I take a look at your GUARDIANS license, please?
--Ethan: Here you go.
--Mina: Wait a moment, please. Verified. Ethan Waber, trainee with the Mobile Guard Unit. Correct? Welcome to the GUARDIANS. My name is Mina and I handle reception. I help all the Guardians in their duties. I look forward to working with you.
--Ethan: Same here.
--Mina: All right, lets get started with your field training. First off. Mister Waber, please take the PPT shuttle to the Planet Parum.
--Ethan: To... the surface?
--Mina: Correct. At Parum's Holtes City, go to the GUARDIANS branch. There, you will receive your mission and meet your partner.
--Ethan: Partner?
--Mina: During your training period, duties are carried out by at least two people per team. Your partner will also be your instructor. Your partner has been chosen based on their aptitude in a variety of fields. Rest assured that we have selected the person best suited for your training.
--Ethan: I see... What kind of person are they?
--Mina: I'm sorry, but I don't have that information. You can see for yourself when you meet them.
--Ethan: All right. I understand.
--Mina: Allow me to renew your license.
(Access to Parum granted)
--Mina: Please be safe in your travels. May the Holy Light guide you.
(End Scene)
---(Again)
--Mina: The PPT shuttles embark from the PPT spaceport on the fourth floor. May the Holy Light guide you.

(Scene: Ethan, Lou)
(As Ethan walks to the exit he is stopped by a small cast girl)
--Lou: I haven't seen you around here before.
--Ethan: I'm Ethan Waber, Mobile Guard Unit Trainee. Nice to meet you.
--Lou: My name is Lou. You are the son of Olson Waber, are you not? Second in your class at training school... not bad.
--Ethan: You seem to know a lot about me. Are you one of my groupies? Hehehe!
--Lou: I have no interest in your human jokes.
--Ethan: Uh... Okay...
(End Scene)

(Lou)
--Lou: Mr. Waber, from what I understand, you were raised in the colony. As such, it is probably best to avoid speaking to most of the CASTs on Parum.
--Ethan: Huh? O-Okay...
---(Again)
--Lou: Try to avoid speaking to the CASTs on Parum.

Clyez City: Fourth Floor: PPT Spaceport
----------------------------------------------------------------
(Scene: Ethan, Conman, Karen)
(As Ethan exits to the fourth floor, a man approaches him)
--Conman: Hey Boss, I've got something you might be interested in.
--Ethan: Oh yeah? And what might that be?
--Conman: This is a rare and precious charm that'll ward off the SEED. If you've got one of these, the SEED won't be able to touch you!
--Ethan: Really!? Gimmie one!
--Conman: You're lucky today, Boss. This little guy usually goes for 10,000 meseta, but today it's got a very special price...
(A Newman woman appears behind Ethan and glares at the salesman)
--Conman: ! E-Except we're all sold out for today. Eh-heh... ... See ya!
(The man exits quickly)
--Ethan: What? Hey, wait!
(The girl exits)
--Girls Voice: You'd have to be pretty gullible to fall for a stunt like that.
--Ethan: Huh?
(End Scene)

(Exit to Parum PPT gate)

(Cutscene)
(The shuttle takes off from the Guardians colony and zips along the Vector Track, and exits near planet Parum. As the shuttle descends into the atmosphere, Ethan looks out the window in amazement at the world below. The shuttle glides over the ruins of a destroyed city before entering Holtes City and merging with traffic on it's way to the spaceport)
--Flight Attendant: Thank you for flying with us today. We hope you enjoy your trip. This shuttle is bound for Holtes City. We are currently passing over the spacious flatlands called Parum Plains.
--Ethan: All right! I've never seen the horizon before! Yeah!
--Flight Attendant: We will soon be passing over the abandoned city of Mellvore. 18 years ago, and explosion completely destroyed the city. The cause of this powerful explosion was never discovered. The ruins now serve as a memorial for those who once resided there. We will be arriving in Holtes City momentarily. We hope you enjoy your stay.
(End Cutscene)

Holtes City: Central District
------------------------------------------
(Scene: Ethan)
(Ethan exits the PPT flyer base and stares out in amazement at the Central District of Holtes City)
--Ethan: So this is Holtes City! It seem like no matter what direction you look in, the buildings go on forever. It also seems like someone's been staring at me as if I've done something wrong... Oh well, I shouldn't let it bother me. In any case, I'd better go pick up my mission at the GUARDIANS branch. They said the branch is in the eastern district, right?
(End Scene)

(PPT Caseal)
--PPT Caseal: You're a Guardian, aren't you?
--Ethan: Yes. I'm Ethan Waber.
--PPT Caseal: I've never heard of you. I wish you wouldn't wander around like this.
---(Again)
--Ethan: This place is sure different from the colony...
--PPT Caseal: It's no good to wander around here like an absent-minded goon. Hurry along!
---(Again)
--PPT Caseal: In times like this, the GUARDIANS need to take things more seriously!

(Green Cast)
--Green Cast: What's your problem? Show a little respect! As if I'd have anything to say to a human!
---(Again)
--Green Cast: You shouldn't talk to CASTs as if you know them!

(Blue Caseal)
--Blue Caseal: What do you want? A Guardian, are you? I have nothing to say to the likes of you!
---(Again)
--Blue Caseal: Would you please leave me alone? You're weirding me out!

(Yellow Cast)
--Yellow Cast: Sorry, but could you leave me alone? I don't trust humans. They don't seem trustworthy. And by "them", I mean "you", so get lost!
---(Again)
--Yellow Cast: Didn't I tell you I don't want to be bothered by your kind?

(AMF Cast)
--Ethan: Hey, you got a second?
--AMF Cast: What do you want!? Don't talk to me like we're friends!

Holtes City: West District
---------------------------------------
(Speal Fonce)
--Ethan: Um... Is your name pronounced "Speal"?
--Speal: I think it would be best not to talk to me.
--Ethan: How come?
--Speal: Just don't.
---(Again)
--Ethan: What's the matter?
--Speal: Please stop talking. it's for your own sake.
--Ethan: Guardians aren't afraid of threats!
--Speal: No, that's not what I mean...
---(Again)
--Ethan: Hey...
--Speal: Look, just don't talk to me, okay?

(Mikaris Geid)
--Mikaris: Hey, you're with the GUARDIANS, aren't you?
--Ethan: Yes. My name is Ethan Waber.
--Mikaris: I'm Mikaris Geid, of the Alliance Military.
---(Again)
--Ethan: You'll talk to me even though I'm human?
--Mikaris: It may be undeniable that CASTs are a superior race, but that doesn't excuse bad behavior now, does it?
--Ethan: I guess not...
---(Again)
--Ethan: Ms. Geid...
--Mikaris: Call me Mikaris. Let's talk again later!

(Yokus Melton)
--Ethan: Hey, is that you, Yokus? Yokus Melton?
--Yokus: Oh... Uh, hi, Ethan...
--Ethan: What's it been, five years? You've hardly changed at all! Imagine, meeting you here!
--Yokus: Yeah. Heh.
---(Again)
--Ethan: Hey, weren't you at the colony during the ceremony?
--Yokus: N-No...
--Ethan: Huh, I thought I saw someone who looked just like you. In fact, I was sure it was you!
---(Again)
--Ethan: Hey.
--Yokus: I wasn't at the ceremony. I haven't been to the colony in ages, okay?
--Ethan: Okay, okay! I believe you.

(Linear Train Attendant)
--Linear Train Attendant: If you continue on ahead, you'll reach the Linear Train platform. When traveling across Parum, please choose the Linear Train!
(Note: This character's dialog doesn't change, and is omitted from later chapters in the script)

(If you try to enter the Linear Train platform)
--Ethan: This is Parum's Linear Line. I've got no reason to use it now.

(AMF Guard)
--AMF Guard: Just back there are the Alliance Military Force Headquarters. You know... It's not the kind of place you humans or Guardians can just stroll right into! If you've got no business there, then you'd better stay away! You know, because of the SEED, we don't even get time off. It just makes me so mad... So get lost!
---(Again)
--AMF Guard: Don't make me say it again! If you don't have business here, then go somewhere else!

---G.R.M Shop
----------------------
(G.R.M. Desk Clerk)
--G.R.M Desk Clerk: Welcome to GRM! Is this your first time here? We are the largest conglomerate in the Gurhal System. We can make arrangements for anything you could possibly need. Please, take your time browsing!
---(Again)
--G.R.M Desk Clerk: Welcome to GRM! Please take your time browsing.
(Note: This character's dialog doesn't change, and is omitted from later chapters in the script)

(Stank Geese)
--Ethan: Oh! You're an Alliance Military officer? Excuse me, I thought you were someone else!
--Stank: What are you scared of? I'm not going to hurt you.
--Ethan: No, it's not that.
--Stank: My name is Stank Geece, Commander of the 65th Squadron.
--Ethan: I'm Ethan Waber, of the GUARDAINS.
---(Again)
--Ethan: I didn't know there were CASTs like you around.
--Stank: You mean ones that will carry on a normal conversation with humans?
--Ethan: Yeah, maybe.
--Stank: I have no ill will towards humans. I know many capable humans, in fact.
---(Again)
--Stank: Are you thinking about joining up?
--Ethan: No, I'm pretty devoted to the GUARDIANS.

(Madris Carn)
--Ethan: Hey! You're in the Alliance Military, even though you're human? How did that happen?
--Madris: Don't look so surprised! I'm Madris Carn, and I used to be a Guardian myself.
--Ethan: I'm Ethan Waber.
--Madris: Nice to meet you!
---(Again)
--Ethan: Why did you quit the GUARDIANS to join the Alliance Military?
--Madris: I was just looking for a better opportunity. My love for the Gurhal System has never faltered.
--Ethan: Does the Alliance Military treat you well?
--Madris: Well, that depends...
---(Again)
--Madris: You're here for a mission aren't you? You'd better not waste any time!

---Parts Shop
---------------------
(Prafo Kaluen)
--Prafo: Hey, you're a Guardian, aren't ya?
--Ethan: Yeah.
--Prafo: When you get big, are you gonna become a CAST in the Alliance Military, too?
--Ethan: No... that's impossible. hey kid, what's your name?
--Prafo: Prafo Kaluen. My dad's a commander in the Alliance Military!
--Ethan: (There are human officers in the Alliance Military?)
--Prafo: What's wrong?
--Ethan: Nothing...
---(Again)
--Prafo: When I get big, I'm gonna be a CAST in the Alliance Military!

Holtes City: East District
--------------------------------------
(Human Male)
--Human Male: You just got here from the GUARDIANS Colony? For the past 100 years, Parum's been under CAST leadership. It's a lot different at the colony, isn't it? CAST politics aren't bad at all. There's no lying or betrayal like there is in human politics. But CASTs aren't exactly warm and fuzzy, either.
---(Again)
--Human Male: I just wish CASTs would think a little bit more about our feelings!

(Qurio Medoc)
--Mr. Medoc: This is a CAST town. If you knew what was good for you, you'd turn tail and leave.
--Ethan: I've got a mission to do, so that'd be impossible.
--Mr. Medoc: So you're a Guardian, eh?
--Ethan: Yes. I'm Ethan Waber.
--Mr. Medoc: I'm Qurio Medoc
---(Again)
--Ethan: It's difficult working here, isn't it?
--Mr. Medoc: It isn't easy, but it doesn't do any good to complain.
--Ethan: Have you been on Parum long?
--Mr. Medoc: It's been about fifty years, I recon. Feels like a million and a half.
---(Again)
--Mr. Medoc: If you ever feel like blowing off some steam, come by anytime!

(Rol Medoc)
--Ethan: Did you say something?
--Rol: I didn't say anything, you creep!
--Ethan: You've got quite a mouth on you, kiddo.
--Rol: Yeah, whatever. Just get out of here before I start yelling!
--Ethan: You're yelling plenty now...
---(Again)
--Ethan: Hey...
--Rol: Shut up! Don't screw with me just 'cause I'm a kid!
--Ethan: I don't know what your problem is, but I think you should just chill out.
--Rol: Hmph!
---(Again)
--Ethan: So how about it? Have you finally calmed down yet?
--Rol: Hmph!

(TTB Flyer Attendant)
--TTB Flyer Attendant: Up ahead is the TTB Flyer Base. When the GUARDIANS need to travel long distances for missions, they always use G-Flyers.
(Note: This character's dialog doesn't change, and is omitted from later chapters in the script)

Holtes City: Guardians Branch
------------------------------------------------
(Human Woman)
--Human Woman: Since the SEED first appeared, the number of incoming SEED has increased dramatically. But even so, the majority of what I'm doing here is dealing with small-scale problems that the Alliance Military doesn't have time to deal with. They say the number of SEED that have fallen in just these past three months is already in the thousands... Where did the SEED come from and why?
---(Again)
--Human Woman: In any case, we've just got to deal with the SEED as best we can!

(Human Male)
--Human Male: The humans on Parum are at the bottom of the social ranks. Discrimination here is a lot different than anything you'd see on the colony, isn't it? It was really hard for me at first, too.
---(Again)
--Human Male: There are all kinds of different CASTs here. Soon you'll get the hang of things!

(Black Cast)
--Black Cast: A Rookie, eh? Lemmie teach you one thing, all right? When fighting enemies, try to take into account their main strength. Then attack with the opposite attribute! Your damage dealt will increase dramatically. On the other hand, if you try to play into their strength in your attacks, the damage will decrease significantly. Keep that in mind.

(Scene: Ethan, Sheena)
--Sheena: Wel'com t' the GUARDIANS branch in Holtes City! Shapin' the future of the Gurhal System!
--Ethan: Ethan Waber. Mobile Guard Unit Trainee reporting in!
--Sheena: At ease, Mr. Waber! I am welcome you. We've got an exciting mission lined up for you!
--Ethan: Huh?
--Sheena: Excuse me. You see. I was just recently born. Last but not least. I'm Sheena. I still have trouble with speakings...
--Ethan: Ah... I think I see.
--Ethan (thinking): Is she okay? What the...
--Ethan: Um.. About the mission?
--Sheena: Yes, please be waiting... Okay, here it goes: Kay... there is a message from your partner person. West district Open Cafe is where you will wait.
--Ethan: About my partner... What kind of person did I get? Is my instructor like an old man or something? I'm a little nervous.
--Sheena: Um... They are nots a man.
--Ethan: It's a woman?
--Sheena: Yes she very is.
--Ethan: Really... a female instructor! Yes, yes, thank you! That's all I needed to know.
--Sheena: Okay. Always 'member, the Holy Light have guidance.
(End Scene)
---(Again)
--Sheena: Wel'com t' the GUARDIANS branch in Holtes City! Shaping the future of the Gurhal System! Oh. Mr. Waber. Did you meet the partner person? They said to wait at the west district Open Cafe.

(Scene: Ethan, Lou)
(As Ethan exits the Guardians Branch, he meets Lou again)
--Ethan: Hey, didn't we meet at the GUARDIANS Colony?
--Lou: Did we? I believe you are mistaken.
--Ethan: Oh, sorry! The person I met before was a little frigid.
--Lou: That is irrelevant information.
--Ethan: Ah, sorry.
--Ethan (thinking): (This one's a barrel of laughs, too.)
(End Scene)
---(Again)
--Lou: Is there something on your mind?
--Ethan: N-No. Nothing at all!

Holtes City: Central District
------------------------------------------
(Scene: Ethan, Conman, Karen)
(Ethan enters the district and sees a Red haired man who calls to him)
--Conman: Hey, you're a Guardian, right? I got this special new type of nano transformer! It can hold ten times what that old thing you got on can hold. How about a special deal?
--Ethan: Really?
--Conman: Of Course! This is an amazing piece of technology that... uh..
(The same Newman girl from the colony enters the scene behind Ethan and glares at the Conman)
--Conman: !! Y'know, I just realized... You probably don't even want it. It's really not all that great.
--Ethan: Huh?
--Conman: S-So long!
(The Conman quickly exits scene)
(Newman girl exits scene)
--Girl's voice: How many times are you going to fall for that?
--Ethan: What? Who...?
(End scene)

(Exit to Holtes City: West District)

Holtes City: West District
----------------------------------------
(Cutscene)
(Hyuga Ryght is at a table holding hands with a waitress, speaking in a romantically to her)
--Hyuga: I know we were meant to be together.
--Girl: That's nice, but this isn't the right time...
--Hyuga: Just one kiss... that's all I'm asking for.
--Girl: Please, not now... My boss might catch me!
(Ethan enters)
--Ethan: Sorry to bother you while you're "busy" ... Ahem! Y' think I could get a koltova, if that's okay?
(Flustered and embarrassed the girl bolts up)
--Girl: Of course. I'm so sorry, sir! I'll go get one right away!
--Hyuga: Wha...
(The girl exits. Hyuga, dejected, runs his fingers through his hair)
--Hyuga: Tactless as usual, huh, Ethan?
--Ethan: Is there any woman you don't try to pick up on? Try thinking with your head, Hyuga.
--Hyuga: I believe there is a spiritual bond between the sexes. And if the Holy Light brings us all together, well... who am I to fight it?
--Ethan: Why do I even bother talking to you? But, just so you know. I'm supposed to meet my new partner here any minute now. And, uh... heh heh heh heh... rumor has it, that my partner here is a girl.
--Hyuga: What a coincidence. I'm waiting for my partner here, as well. Please, try not to speak. It puts a damper on the conversation.
(The Newman girl from previous scenes with Ethan walks up to the duo)
--Karen: You two look like my Guardian trainees.
(The camera pans over Karen. Ethan and Hyuga both try to stand, but Hyuga pushes Ethan down)
--Hyuga: An unexpected pleasure. I thank the Holy Light for this encounter.
(Ethan bolts up out of his seat and pushes Hyuga back into his)
--Ethan: What? I told you! She's my partner!
--Karen: My name is Karen Erra. I will be instructor and partner to both of you.
--Ethan & Hyuga: Both of... us? Wait... That means... He's my partner?!
--Karen: We normally have 2-person teams, but we're shorthanded now, so it has to be this way. I hope you both understand. I've been observing both of you for a while. You might be interested in my findings. Hyuga Ryght... Engaging in personal affairs while on duty is grounds for reprisal.
--Hyuga: Yes.
(Ethan chuckles)
--Karen: And you, Ethan Waber.
--Ethan: Uh, Y-Yes ma'am!
--Karen: I've been watching you since you've been on the colony, and your actions are too reckless. It's one thing to rely on yourself, but another to rely ONLY on yourself. That's just foolish.
--Ethan: Huh? Wait.. the colony? Hey, are you that girl that I saw...?
--Karen: While on duty, I expect you to use your head and think before you act.
--Ethan: Alright.
--Karen: Even though you're only trainees you have the same responsibilities as full-fledged Guardians. One wrong move can cost you your life. The life of a Guardian is a dangerous one. Now, gather up your things, and get ready to move out.
--Ethan & Hyuga: Yes, ma'am!
(End Cutscene)

(Scene: Ethan, Karen, Hyuga)
--Karen: All right, the first thing we need to do is go over proper party formation procedures, because we're going to carry this mission out as a team!
--Ethan: Party formation?
--Karen: Correct. using the comm terminals you received with you licenses, you can submit a request to the main GUARDIANS computer stating that you will be carrying out your mission together, as a party. this is so that if you are separated from your group you will still be able to check the status and location of the other party members. Furthermore, even if you become separated, you'll still be able to communicate. This makes it an extremely effective system when used in battle.
--Ethan: Hyuga? Can you hear me now?
--Hyuga: What? Are you talking to me?
--Karen: Well, it's not so much something that you learn, rather than something you need to get used to. Now, I'll use my comm terminal to invite you both into my party. I'll need acknowledgement from both of you, so pay attention. I'll start with you, Ryght. All right, we're good to go. You're up next, Waber.
(Accept party invite)
--Karen: All right, we're done. You both understand that you are now able to check each other's status, right?
--Ethan: Understood!
--Karen: Then let's try dissolving the party once.
(Removed from party)
--Karen: Next we'll cover how to add members to your own party. For starters, try registering me in your party.
(At this point you're free to move)
(Talk to Hyuga)
--Hyuga: If you dawdle, you're going to make her mad, Ethan.
(Talk to Karen)
--Karen: There's no time for idle talk. Hurry up!
(Add Karen to your party)
--Karen: Great. Now, using the same procedure, remove me from the party.
(Removed Karen from your party)
--Karen: Okay. You're up next, Ryght.
(Screen fades then comes back signifying Hyuga's turn)
--Karen: This is how missions will be carried out, with on person as the leader. During the training period, in order to get the most effective training, the trainee is allowed to lead. In this case we've got two trainees, so... Waber, you'll be leading this time.
--Ethan: Hehe! I guess I'm the leader.
--Hyuga: ...
--Karen: Don't let it go to your head, Waber. The leader's role doesn't go beyond the formation of the party. During the training period, I'll be calling the shots. And the reason I chose you is that you don't seem to pick up things as quickly as Ryght. I concluded that you still need the practice before you are ready to see real combat.
--Hyuga: Pfft, you lucked out... Eh, Leader?
--Ethan: Hmph!
--Karen: In any case, there are numerous other ways to register a party, but we'll cover them as they become relevant. Our mission today will take place at Raffon Meadow. We'll be taking the Flyer from here.
(Mission "Meadow Purify" becomes selectable)
--Karen: For now, we'll separate and complete any necessary preparations. As soon as you are ready to leave, Waber, create a party with myself and Ryght. Once we've all been registered, we'll rendezvous at the Flyer Base. The Flyer Base is next to the GUARDIANS Branch. All right trainees, get your things together ASAP!
--Hyuga: Ethan, I'm heading off first. When you're ready, I'll be over by the central plaza.
--Ethan: Okay.
(Hyuga exits offscreen)
--Ethan: Instructor! Can I talk to you for a second?
--Karen: What is it, Waber?
--Ethan: It's about before... When I was talking to that vendor, was that you nearby?
--Karen: Yes, it was. You'll have to learn to be less gullible, Waber.
--Ethan: W-Why did that guy run off like that in the middle of talking?
--Karen: Oh that. Well all I really did was stand there behind you.
--Ethan: Huh?
--Karen: I one had a mission that involved a crackdown on all those street vendors. I guess I got a little out of hand with one of them. Maybe I threw a few too many punches... I don't know... But now it looks like I've been blacklisted by them. It's pretty amusing to watch them freak out like that, isn't it?
--Ethan (thinking): (Geez! I'd better remember to stay on her good side.)
--Karen: Hm? You say something?
--Ethan: N-No nothing!
(End Scene)

(Talk to Karen)
--Karen: Have you gotten everything ready?
(Add Karen to the party)
--Karen: Let's move out. From the Flyer Base we'll head for Raffon Meadow.
(Talk after adding Karen)
--Karen: Where's Ryght? You can't perform your mission without him. Ryght's probably around the central square.
(Remove Karen from party)
--Karen: What? You still aren't ready for the mission? Hurry up and get ready!

Holtes City: Central District
----------------------------------------
(Talk to Hyuga)
--Hyuga: Ah, Ethan my boy! I'm ready for anything now. On top of everything, that beautiful woman is my instructor. The Holy Light is truly shining down on me!
--Ethan: She seems pretty strict...
--Hyuga: You don't get it do you, Ethan? That can be a good thing, if you know what I mean!
--Ethan: Geez! I might've expected as much from you.
(Add Hyuga to the party)
--Hyuga: Well then, let's join up at the Flyer Base.
(Remove Hyuga from the party)
--Hyuga: What's wrong? Aren't you ready for the mission yet?

(Start mission: Meadow Purify)

Raffon Meadow: Block A-1
---------------------------------------
(Scene: Ethan, Hyuga, Karen)
(Ethan and party enter into the Raffon Meadow area)
--Ethan: So this is Raffon Meadow! There's no sign of civilization anywhere!
--Hyuga: I had thought all of Parum was developed and industrialized. But there are still places like this, I see.
--Karen: No matter how much of Parum is artificial... you can't change the fact that it's still sitting on rock and soil. Come to think about it, the GUARDIANS Colony is probably much more artificial than Parum. Hey, you two brought your goggles with you, right? You should check some of the trees. Sometimes you can find ones that are easy to take down.
--Ethan: The goggles can do that? Wow, they sure are handy to have around!
--Ethan (thinking): But why would I want to take down a tree?
--Karen: Oh, never mind. Our client is up ahead. Let's move out!
(End Scene)

(Approach the top of a nearby hill)

(Cutscene)
(Ethan and party approach a cargo transport vehicle filled with pig-like creatures)
--Ethan: What's that?
--Karen: It looks like a cargo transporter. It looks like the engine's still running. But I don't see the driver around here anywhere.
(Ethan walks closer to the cargo transporter and looks at the creatures in amazement)
--Ethan: Oooh! Check it out! Hey what is this ugly thing?
--Hyuga: Ethan, you really don't know what that is?
--Ethan: Not a clue. So what it is?
--Hyuga: It's a koltova.
--Ethan: T-That's a koltova?! I drink the juice from something that ugly!
--Hyuga: What planet are you from? Don't you know, the uglier the koltova, the more succulent it's meat is.
--Ethan: Hmm... Well then you are one juicy koltova. He he he
(A desperate looking CAST girl enters the scene from behind the group)
--Norphe: Sorry! A-are you Guardians?
--Karen: That's right. Are you a resident here?
(The CAST girl approaches the group and bows deeply)
--Norphe: Oh, thank goodness you're here! I'm Norphe, the caretaker of this Green Green Farm. Since the SEED attack, the koltovas have been strange...
--Karen: Strangely?
--Norphe: Yes. They've become very edgy and aggressive. When they attacked, we hid in the cargo container. But I don't know where Kalam is. Now he's gone. I've been looking everywhere...
--Karen: Try to calm down. Now, who is Kalam?
--Norphe: He's Mr. Ryme's son, the farm owner. You see, I was hired to help around the farm. But Mr. Ryme was killed during the SEED attacks. Kalam and I have been protecting the farm ever since. If anything were to happen to Kalam.. I... I... I don't know what to do!
--Karen: Don't worry. We'll do everything we can. We'll keep an eye out for him. I'm sure he'll turn up.
--Norphe: Oh thank you for your kindness! Thank you!
(End Cutscene)

(Talk to Norphe)
--Norphe: Did you find Kalam? Please find him quickly! I beg of you!

(Scene: Ethan, Hyuga, Karen)
(Before moving on to block A-2, Karen stops the party)
--Karen: Now we're heading to the Ryme grazing lands. En route we may come under attack by SEED-altered creatures. According to our client, even docile koltovas have been attacking people. I'll be following you two, so please take appropriate measures to stay safe.
--Ethan: All right.
--Hyuga: Understood.
(End Scene)

Raffon Meadow: Block A-2
-----------------------------------------
(Upon entering Block A-2, the party are attacked by aggressive Koltova)
--Ethan: Woah! These things really are aggressive!

(Fight through Blocks A-2 through A-4)
(Exit to AMF Field Base)

AMF Field Base
------------------------
(Cutscene)
(Ethan and party enter into a makeshift military camp set up by the AMF. Around them are the charred and smoldering remains of local wildlife)
--Ethan: This is unbelievable... The SEED did this?
--Karen: No. This wasn't the work of the SEED. Those burn marks came from Alliance weapons.
--Ethan: What do you mean?!
(Hyuga bends down to inspect a koltova corpse with his goggles)
--Hyuga: This koltova... it doesn't look like it was infected. Look here... see? No, it was killed by a weapon blast.
--Karen: To prevent a second wave of contamination all wildlife in the area have been terminated.
--Ethan: But that's... barbaric.
(The group turns to face an AMF Striker tank as it approaches)
--Ethan: Look. What is it?
--Karen: An Alliance tank.
(A tall and imposing CAST in full AMF regalia exits the tank)
--Curtz: This area is off limits. It is under quarantine. Identify yourselves immediately.
--Karen: We are Guardians here on a purification mission.
--Curtz: I am the commanding officer of the 177th brigade. Fullyen Curtz. Can't you see that this zone is being sterilized? There is no need for purification.
--Karen: Yes, but we have a report of a missing child in the area. Have you seen a little boy?
--Curtz: Hmph! I didn't know that the GUARDIANS also offered babysitting services. You better find him quick, or hope that he's flame retardant.
--Ethan: Aren't you our allies? There's a kid in danger out there! Don't you care if he lives or dies?!
(Curtz pushes Ethan away forcefully)
--Curtz: Hmph! I will not endanger the entire planet for the sake of a single child! The contamination must be stopped at all costs.
--Ethan: Why you...!
(Ethan tries to rush Curtz, but Karen holds him back)
--Karen: Cool it! Remember what I said. I apologize for my comrade. Is it possible to delay sterilization until after we've found the child?
--Curtz: Contamination has already begun to spread up ahead, and we anticipate another attack.
--Karen: Leave the responsibility of the contamination to us.
--Curtz: Very well. However, if you find yourself in danger, send up a flare. We will provide help if we can.
--Karen: Thank you for your cooperation. Let's go!
(Ethan gives Curtz a cold stare. Curtz watches at they depart)
--Curtz: Hmph... novices...
(End Cutscene)

(Scene: Ethan, Hyuga, Karen)
--Ethan: What's HIS problem?
--Karen: I'm sure you ran into the same attitude in Holtes City, too. Within CASTs, there are those who regard humans and newmans as inferior races. Some even go so far as to advocate a CAST supremacy. And even though Parum, which is primarily under CAST control, prohibits such discrimination, the reality is that below the surface, the most intense discrimination occurs here. A lot of them are even members of the Alliance Military Force. Of course, there are also many CASTs who oppose those ideas. But for the most part, those CASTs generally migrate to the GUARDIANS Colony.
--Hyuga: Because at the GUARDIANS Colony all races are equal, correct?
--Karen: That's what the president... Well, that's what the GUARDIANS dictate... You know... There are some bad things out here that we're rarely exposed to from inside the colony. But sometimes I find it necessary to step out from the sterility of the colony... and face the truths of the world, whether they be harsh or pleasant. At least they're real.
(End Scene)

(Cast on the Hillside)
--CAST: This is the AMF base camp. There's no way you Guardians are coming in here.

(Cast by Locked Doors)
--CAST: Beyond this point we are conducting AMF military operations. If you don't want to get caught in a bombing raid then I suggest you stay away!

(Exit to Raffon Meadow: Block B-1)

Raffon Meadow: Block B-1
---------------------------------------
(Scene: Ethan, Hyuga, Karen)
(The party ascends to the top of a small hillock and get a view of white agricultural structures in the distance)
--Hyuga: Excuse me, but what is that?
--Karen: It appears to be "Green Green Farm."
--Hyuga: It looks nothing like the farms on the colony.
--Karen: That's because here they take pride in breeding their animals in more natural surroundings.
--Ethan: What's that?
(End Scene)

(Cutscene)
(The party watches as a strange tentacled SEED form spirals through the air)
--Karen: Oh no! The SEED!
--Ethan: That one's... odd. Never seen it before!
(The SEED form crashes down onto the distant plains and sprouts what looks like a flower blume. Karen activates her goggles to inspect it more carefully. She see jets of reddish-black infection streaming out)
--Karen: The contamination is spreading too quickly. It's replicating like a virus. We don't have any time to lose. Let's get moving!
--Ethan & Hyuga: Yes, ma'am!
(End Cutscene)

Raffon Meadow: Block B-2
--------------------------------------
(Scene: Ethan, Hyuga, Karen)
(Ethan and party enter the field where the SEED form landed. The soil is charred and molten in places. The sky is choked with clouds of smoke)
--Ethan: Is... Is this what the SEED are doing?
--Karen: That thing we saw before, falling from the sky... They fall to the ground and extend their roots. Then they sprout buds all over the place until they blanket the ground. The buds sprout and release virus-like pollen into the air contaminating the local life. That's where they get the name SEED. It's how they propagate. As the SEED-Virus encroaches on life forms, it alters them, changing them permanently into brutally aggressive creatures. Sadly, there's no chance of recovery. The fortunate thing is that the SEED-Virus doesn't seem to affect our distinct physiology. We have no information on where they come from or why. This is our enemy. From here on out is SEED-infected territory. Due to contamination, there are a number of auto-locked security fields in place. To remove the auto locks, we've got to remove the source... by purifying the SEED in the area and retrieving those Info Keys. In order to find Kalam, it's probably a good idea to split up the purification duties.
--Hyuga: What exactly is the purification process?
--Karen: In order to purify an area, we've got to destroy the SEED-Cores in that area.
--Hyuga: Destroy the SEED-Cores... And how, exactly, does one go about doing that?
--Ethan: That's simple, right? Just swing that big sword of yours as hard as you can! Make mincemeat of 'em!
--Karen: If only it were that simple!
--Ethan: Huh?
--Karen: Surrounding the SEED-Core are flower-like SEED-Blewmes, which form a special barrier around the core. These blewmes are completely impervious to regular weapon attacks. The only thing that will make our weapons effective is if we have an extremely potent heat source.
--Hyuga: Is that what the Alliance Military Force is doing with those bombs?
--Karen: Yes, that's one way to deal with the problem. But as Guardians, we cannot readily accept any means that will cause such horrific destruction to nature. It contradicts the core belief of the Guardians. To protect people, and the planets and stars where they make their homes. For that reason a special tool, the photon eraser, was created. But even with this tool, you can't directly attack the blewmes. If you can expose the root-like SEED-Zoma, the blewmes will wither. Then you can attack the SEED-Core directly. I took the liberty of preparing photon erasers for both of you. Here are your photon erasers.
(Receive Photon Eraser)
--Karen: All right, listen up. This is how you go about the purification of the SEED.
(SEED purification tutorial)
--Karen: If you are unclear on anything, inquire as often as necessary. First, try to purify the SEED-Core ahead. First, use the goggles and find those Zoma! If you find a Zoma, expose it to the photon eraser.
(End Scene)

(After you find and destroy one Zoma)
--Karen: Great, like that! Now find the rest of the Zoma.

(After you find and destroy all Zoma)
--Karen: The blewme is withering! Destroy the SEED-Core!

(After you destroy the SEED-Core)
--Karen: All right, it looks like you've got the hang of things. Let's split up the work and get these SEED-Cores purified. Then we'll make our way to the grazing lands. Oh, there's something I forgot! It has been confirmed that the alteration of the surrounding life forms is intensifying. Make sure you are fully prepared for anything we may encounter.
--Ethan: Understood!

(Trial Start)
(Destroy SEED blewmes throughout Raffon Meadow Blocks B-2 - B-3)

Green Green Farm
----------------------------
(Scene: Ethan, Hyuga, Karen, Kalam)
(As the party climbs up another small hillock, they gather around the pieces of a broken sign)
--Ethan: Is this the ranch we're looking for?
--Karen: Green Green Farm... That's what it looks like.
--Ethan: What happened here?
(A small boy in yellow appears some distance from the party)
--Ethan: Huh? A laser fence?
--Kalam: You guys came here to kill our koltova, didn't you!? Well, I won't let you! Get outta here!
(The boy then rushes off. Ethan tries to give chase, but is stopped dead by a laser fence's activation)
--Ethan: Woah, hey!
--Karen: So that's Kalam...
--Ethan: He ran off into the forest. What is that kid thinking!?
--Karen: He probably went to find the koltova that ran off.
--Hyuga: But there's no way to bring them back to normal!
--Ethan: He isn't gonna listen to reason now... We'd better go get him!
--Hyuga: Yes, but how do you propose we get past that laser fence?
--Ethan: Don't just stand there. Help me think! We've got to get out of here before it's too late!
(The party is attacked by infected koltova. After they are defeated, the fence dissipates)
--Ethan: The fence is down!
--Hyuga: These fences were originally installed to keep the koltova in place. Do you suppose that if there are no animals left, the fence simply shuts itself off?
--Karen: Let's hypothesize later. We've got to go get Kalam. Let's go, you two. Move out!
--Ethan: Yeah, but will that little brat actually let us bring him back?
(End Scene)

(Fight through Blocks C-1 to C-2 chasing after Kalam. Exit to Block C-3)

Raffon Meadow: Block C-3
--------------------------------------
(Cutscene)
(Ethan and party enter a wide open field with a large SEED-Blewme)
--Karen: That looks like the alpha SEED over there.
--Ethan: So... We gotta purify it, right?
--Karen: Yes, so long as there's no surprises.
(A large structure built into the rock-wall nearby catches Ethan's eye)
--Ethan: Wow! What is that?
--Karen: It's a Relics site.
--Ethan: Relics?
--Karen: They are ancient ruins that are thousands-of-years-old, found scattered throughout the Gurhal system. It appears that the SEED are often found near Relics sites...
--Hyuga: I've never seen one in person before...
--Karen: There is still so much we can learn from them. This may require further investigation. We'll contact headquarters about it later. For now, we have a job to finish!
--Hyuga: Yes, ma'am!
(Karen and Hyuga walk away, but Ethan lingers staring at the structure)
--Hyuga: Come on Ethan. Keep with the program.
--Ethan: Oh, yeah. Yeah, hey, wait up!
(Suddenly the ground begins trembling)
--Hyuga: Huh?!
--Ethan: Oh no! What is that?!
(A humongous koltova known as a Gol Dova appears and advances on the party menacingly)
--Hyuga: Is that a koltova?! How did it get so big?!
--Karen: It looks like it's mutated from all the contamination! Be careful!
(Fight and Defeat the Gol Dova)
--Ethan: Whew! Man, that was pretty tough.
--Kalam: Unh...
(Kalam pushes his way past Ethan and rushes to the fallen Gol Dova)
--Kalam: Stop it! Get away form my dad's koltova!
--Ethan: Your dad's? That thing over there is from your farm?
--Kalam: Can't you see?! It's got our farm's brand on it's horn! This is my dad's koltova, okay! So leave us alone! Go on and get outta here!
(The Gol Dova stirs and stands up behind Kalam. Ethan rushes in)
--Ethan: Hey, watch out, kid!
(Ethan rushes in and grabs a struggling Kalam)
--Kalam: What're you doing? Lemmie go!

(Ethan picks up the child and starts running. Karen readies her gun)
--Karen: It's still alive?
(Ethan passes Kalam off to Hyuga)
--Ethan: Hyuga! Look after him! Here!
--Hyuga: Ok!
(Ethan begins taunting the Gol Dova, drawing it attention away from Hyuga an Kalam as they flee)
--Ethan: Hey! Over here! Over here!
(The Gol Dova charges Ethan, who runs past Karen)
--Ethan: I'll distract it, so you can shoot it!
--Karen: A-All right!
(Karen fires at the Gol Dova to no effect, it passes her by without slowing down)
--Karen: Waber!
--Ethan: Aaaaah!
(Ethan runs to an outcropping of rocks and begins to climb. The Gol Dova crashes into the rock-face, causing a large boulder that Ethan is perched atop to fall backwards towards the ground)
--Ethan: Aaaaaack!
--Karen: Waber! Hey, are you okay?
--Ethan: Ugh... Yeah... I think...
--Karen: You reckless fool. What were you thinking?!
(Kalam breaks from Hyuga's grasp and rushes to the rock face. His father's koltova lies buried beneath the rubble, dead and oozing)
(End Cutscene)

(Cutscene)
(The party has returned to the starting point outside of the contamination zone with Kalam in tow. It is sunset now, and Norphe hurries along to meet them)
--Norphe: Kalam!
--Ethan: Look, someone's glad to see you.
--Norphe: I can't thank you enough for this.
--Ethan: Ah, don't worry about it. It was nothing.
--Hyuga: Didn't look like "nothing" to me.
--Norphe: It's dangerous to wander off like that! I was so worried...
--Kalam: I promised my dad that I'd protect his koltovas! But that's something a CAST would never understand!
(Kalam pushes Norphe away and runs)
--Norphe: Kalam!
--Ethan: Hey, Kalam! Wait!
--Hyuga: You might need some help there, Ethan.
(Ethan and Hyuga chase off after the boy. Norphe, somber, stays behind with Karen)
--Norphe: Kalam...It was foolish of me to think I could take the place of his parents... But I... I don't know what to do now...
--Karen: You know, I lost my parents when I was about the same age, too. At the time, I felt like I was all alone in the world. It was almost too much to bear. But, with the help of people who supported me, I was finally able to get on with my life. Kalam's sad and alone. He doesn't know how to deal with it. He's pushing you away because he's confused and angry. Kalam needs someone who loves him. It doesn't matter whether you're a CAST or not. What matters is making sure Kalam knows he's not alone.
(Ethan and Hyuga bring the struggling boy back, as Norphe rushes to meet them)
--Kalam: Go away! I don't need you! I don't need anyone!
(Norphe embraces Kalam)
--Kalam: Lemme go! What're you doing?! Lemme go, you stupid!
--Norphe: But I promised Mr. Ryme that... I promised your dad I'd look after you...
(Kalam now embraces Norphe in return and they both begin crying)
(End Cutscene)

(Cutscene)
(The G-Flyer sails through the sky on the way back to Holtes City)
--Ethan: Man. I could get used to this. Helping people out, putting things right! Which reminds me, ma'am. I was wondering what you said to Norphe back there?
--Karen: Nothing that concerns you.
--Ethan: Okay...
--Hyuga: So, when did you join the GUARDIANS, ma'am?
--Karen: This is my third year. I got my license when I was 14.
--Hyuga: Huh?
--Ethan: What?! Lemme see... You're the same age as us?! You're only 17?!
--Karen: That's right... So I guess you can call me Karen from now on. But don't expect me to make it any easier just because we're all the same age. Is that clear?
--Ethan & Hyuga: Yes, ma'am.
(G-Flyer zooms off into the sunset)
(End Cutscene)

(Ending Cinema)

Chapter 3: Alternate Preview
------------------------------------------
--Hyuga: Hello, my name is Hyuga. If there are any single ladies out there, how do you feel about a little date?
--Ethan: Hey, Hyuga! This isn't the time or place for that.
--Hyuga: Oooh Ethan. A guy's prerogative, is a guy's prerogative. Don't you get that?
--Ethan: You're the one who doesn't get it. You don't care what's going on as long as you're flirting.
--Hyuga: All of life's encounters are seen to by the Holy Light. I can't let those go to waste!
--Ethan: Try saying that to our instructor.
--Hyuga: Karen?! I-I'l pass, thanks.
--Ethan: Ah ha ha. What's the matter, Hyuga? Chicken?
--Karen: What are you two going on about?
--Ethan: Oh! Nothing. Hyuga was just talking about asking you on a date, ma'am.
--Karen: A.. date...
--Hyuga: Ethan, don't be so shy! Ethan's just embarrassed to admit that he wants to ask you out, ma'am.
--Karen: Oh, I see... You both want to go out with me.
--Ethan & Hyuga: Uhhh....
--Karen: Don't you think I'd prefer men who don't slack off from doing their duty?
--Ethan & Hyuga: Yes, ma'am!
--Karen: And what IS your duty?
--Ethan & Hyuga: Giving the preview for the next chapter, ma'am!
--Karen: And don't you think you could be doing a better job of it?
--Ethan & Hyuga: Yes, ma'am...
--Karen: I am not going to go on a date with anyone with that work ethic. Am I understood?
--Ethan & Hyuga: Yes, ma'am!
--Karen: For punishment, say "Relics" three hundred times.
--Ethan & Hyuga: Yes, ma'am! Relics Relics Relics Relics Relics Relics Relics Relics Relics Relics Relics Relics
--Karen: Next time; Phantasy Star Universe, Relics. See ya then.
--Ethan & Hyuga: Relics Relics Relics relics relics relics relics relics........
