The Vanguard in the US version is weaker than the Braver in the JP version, BTW.

Well, unlike in PSO, CAST Hunters no longer have the highest ATA or EVP of the Hunter group. They instead have the highest ATA and fastest PP regeneration. Their HP is decent, but not as good as the Beasts. Also, they boast the second highest DEF so yes, they are decent tanks. Not excellent, but decent. Just watch out for techniques, as CASTs have the lowest technique resistance.

That being said, the Braver class is also an extremely good tanking class, boasting the highest EVP by far, the second highest ATA, ATP, and maybe DEF.

A decent support/tank would be a Beast Force (preferably female, as the male has waaaaay to little PP to support). You get the benefits of having very high HP and DEF, while getting access to the lv. 21+ support techniques. CAST Forces...well...not so much.

A less tank but more support type of character would be the Human Force. You get decent HP and MST/TP with enough DEF and EVP to cover being a tank. In this case, being a male might be better.

Last but not least is the Newman Force. Gender doesn't really matter, but being a female is recommended (by us) for her insane EVP and MST/TP. With a lv. 21+ Deband, not much is going to hit you, but if something does you will need the high MST/TP to insta-heal yourself. Of course, you're not gonna do much damage but you're not going to take much either.

For soloing, look no further than the Braver. Almost as much ATA as the Hunter, just with the highest EVP of any class and EX Traps. Goes well with any race/gender combo, maybe except the Beast Male, due to his absolutely terrible EVP and PP.

Well, character selection/creating is quite diverse; one of the strong points of the game. You can create one gender of every race to test them all out if you wish.

You're going to have to eventually choose whether to focus on making your character as well-rounded as possible or play on the gender/race combination's strengths and focus on that. I usually take the latter, taking advantage of the female Newman's superior EVP and PP to create a very defensive-style based Braver.

Hmm...well, character-depth wise, it was much better. Sure, it still had many corny, "I fight for my friends!" lines, but then again, Japanese voice actors are that much better than English ones.

The storyline itself was yet another 'save Gurhal, this time with another character' plot; nothing too special. I have yet to see a PS storyline as epic and as thrilling as PSU's (my god, that was one freaky story).

Overall, I'd give the storyline a 7.5/10. That means acceptable in my terms. In terms of Story Mode, though, it changes pace between very easy and OMGWTFBBQ??? moments. The latter consists of defending something against hordes of something else (this happens 3 times) and Shizuru and extremely tight time trials.

Lemme tell you, though, that some things in the game are so WTF!? that while you can block or avoid the attack, it's next to impossible. A perfect example is the Duga Donga - every boss powers up when you deplete a certain amount of its health, excepting Mother Brain and Dulk Falkis version 1. The Duga Donga will start spinning around for around 10 seconds while firing a laser that normally takes out around 60% of your health blindly around the arena (the laser has infinite range).

Another one, while not a 'super move', is the Olga Angelus' rapid-fire attack, where he moves off the stage and fires buttloads of little black bullet-like things all over the map. The only way to avoid this attack is to run to the far sides of the circular stage and try to find the one spot where you most likely won't get hit.

And I agree with you; just add in a story and you've got all I need. Oh, and good characters.
