Never really though about that, but from what I've seen I think it's random. I believe doing higher damage only increases the chances of it knocking over... then again I could be wrong.
You refer to Ultimate Mines right? I guess is just like Jaspaller said, high damage increases the chance of knocking over it, but still is random... anyway i'm not sure. Would be cool if someone clarifies for us.
I read somewhere that there's some Ratio to it. I don't know what it is, though.
There is a ratio for the chance of a Gillchich/Dubchich falling from an attack. Doing more or less damage is not a factor. In other words, you could knock out one with just a 100 damage attack but it can also not be knocked out by a 400 damge one.

That's true, I tested this yesterday. I barely do 100 damage, still knocked them down 1 in 5 tries or so.
