Pong, on a Sears 6-in-1 console. It's a neat device because the AV cables are extreeeeeemly long. This is because the entire console (bigger than the 360, but leaner) was your controller. It had a knob on the top and buttons on the side. I moved up to the TI-99/4A with Donkey Kong (arcade original) being my first contemporary game series. Though I enjoyed Parsec more.

What really got me into gaming though, was King's Quest IV: Perils of Rosella. To switch from "hold left, push A" to having a whole world to explore at your leisure, populated with people to talk to that had their own motivations, opinions, and troubles. Not to mention you actually had to use more than just reflexes to make progress. You had to interact with the world. Need that flute so you can charm the snake so you can get across the island? Pan has one, maybe he'd trade you for a different instrument? The bard has a lute, and he sucks at it... maybe he'd be better off as an actor? Now... where to find a Shakespeare book...?

Not to mention that to do all that, you didn't just press a button. Back then, you had a text parser interface. This meant I had to TALK to my computer. It was like a companion on my journey, my interface to this world, and I had to work with it in order to help the protagonist. It was almost surreal.

It was just, a very mind blowing experience for a kid who grew up with only two button and a D-Pad and not much variation on the basic formula.

Feed men, and then ask of them virtue!
