Several people on GameFAQs already have the import, the extra character is nowhere to be seen, yet.. could be unlockable, could be downloadable (we already know it's patchable and that there will be downloadable content, both free and pay).
HUnewm was the class i wanted before PSO ever came out. Instead i get to play as a blockhead HUmar. The way they run is funny, they run like ogres.
And why does everyone use that big mammoth HUnewm picture. i visited a website along time ago that had another HUnewm picture of a skinnier version. HUnewm is the ultimate class ^__^
Well, since I don't have brodband I skipped on the Live starter kit when it came out earlier this month so I can't verify through playing the game, but I did a skim through Famitsu Xbox last weekend and didn't see anything about an extra character. In fact I saw a blurb that I'm pretty sure said that contentwise the Xbox version is the same as the GC version. That said however, since the Xbox does have a hard drive and MS and Sega have hinted at exclusive content for the Xbox verson, it's not a stretch to say that adding an extra character is possible, but it hasn't happened yet as far as I can tell.
exclusive content can mean xbox only weapons, xbox only mags, xbox only quests, xbox only events, yadda yadda.
if they were to add a new character as a downloadable, it;ll be some work, modifying equipable by info for all the items, adding 3d models, sequences, modifying character creation screens and process, bla bla bla.
just realistically, from a business stand point, if i were to add new characters, i'll advertise and market the hell out of it, milk all the money out of it.
I agree completely, it would be difficult and unrealistic to add an extra character via a download; and seeing as I won't be playing PSO on the Xbox anytime soon (Seeing as I lack broadband and have a chipped Xbox) I hope they don't add a new character. I was just saying that given the Xbox's capibilities, it's technically possible. I'm presonally surprised that they didn't do more to make it different from the CG version seeing as I figured that they were hoping that live would increase sales of the Xbox over here so that is wasn't competing with the WonderSwan and PSOne for 4th or 5th place in sales. But it sounds like the only things were missing out on right now on the CG is whatever features Live has plus the promise of some sort of exclusive content someday. Though for the Xbox players I hope they get something, because it sounds like in Japan at least they have to pay for a hunters licence on top of their live subscription.
they could have done more with the pc version too, but it's just a port.
still if i were sonic team, and i had characters to add, i'll put it in a new game, even if it's just a ver 2 kind of deal of ep 1 and 2 and profit even more money from selling the new game.
You guys don't know much about game engines.. something like this would be simple, and nothing in the game would need to be updated. It's just a skin mesh + textures.
bah..i wrote a pretty lengthy paragraph about why its possible, but not probable but its lost in an error some place (thanks Apple and your damn imacs).
Bottom line is this: Lolita is right. Had Microsoft or Sega planned (or plan) major upgrades to gameplay, they'd milk it for all its worth. Lets not forget this is the same Microsoft that was advertising minor Splinter Cell downloads before the game was on the shelf.
Does that mean there wont be xbox exclusive content? No, but I wouldnt go as far as saying things like new characters, levels, or techs will be tossed in. Even at a later date. The code for new seperate entity characters would have to be present when the game is pressed (otherwise, we'd have to be issued new discs since content downloads are just tacked on things like a new map for UC, not major gameplay changes).
Maybe some of the JP folks can help us out here. Is Sega or Microsoft advertising the fact xbox has a hard drive (in regards to PSO, not generally) and can be used for later changes?
