PM devices and EX devices

I've searched the whole forum for an explanation on what these do to your PM, and what makes a PM device different from an EX device and I can't find anything on psupedia either. Does anyone know the difference/what they do?

Partner machine upgrade devices have a series requirement. A PM Device GH4yx will work on any PM in the y series, not allowing a pm to change series.

Partner machine extra upgrade devices have a B St requirement. A EX Device GH4yx will work on any PM with enough B St, allowing a pm to change series.

A PM device will change any PM in a series into another PM of the same series.
For example, a PM Device GH432 will only work on a GH 430, GH 431, GH 433, or GH 434.

A EX device will change any PM with enough B St into any another PM, even one outside of the same series.
For example, a EX Device GH432 will work on any PM with B St. 20+. (Except a GH 432 because it's already a GH 432.)
