Well, Guitar Hero DS used the GBA slot for the guitar peripheral... thing. And Pokemon Diamond and Pearl let you transfer stuff from the GBA games using the slot, as well as changing certain things in-game if you had one of the old GBA games in the slot. The functionality has been used.
I am undecided about this game. On the one hand, I have a DS, and have looked with envy at the news about Phantasy Star Portable, for PSP. On the other hand... this doesn't look as good. Not a huge fan of the art style, it's a little SD for me. I'll have to see what combat/gameplay is like. If it's a good, solid action RPG, I'm sold. I'm a sucker for those. I'm just afraid it'll be sloppily done.
Well, not saves or anything, but some games did have extras if had a game.
Example: Megaman Starforce, if you had a Megaman Battle Network game in your GBA slot, you can get an extra equip for you buster.
Go go bonus for having Phantasy Star Collection.
