Most intriguing. And...confusing...
Most people (that I know) expected Bioshock 2 to be a prequel, though this trailer doesn't seem to imply that...
There was a Czech game review site that claimed that someone at 2K was hinting that it was a prequel but 2K never said anything about it either way (although it seems like quite a few people ran with the rumor anyway.) It could still be a prequel though, who knows lol. After watching the trailer several times, I can see where it could go either way.
Nice. Funny how the trailer is exclusive on the PS3 version's extras. Glad I don't have to get an Xpox to play it. I still need to play the first Bioshock though.

BioShock was easily one of the best games I've played in the last year. I'm looking forward to this.

When they finished the original game, I'm sure they had little to no ideas for a sequel, but after what a huge success it was, they started working on it, so they had a trailer ready by time the PS3 version released.
And yes, Bioshock was / still is a great game.
...I really should get around to finishing that. But hey, now that I don't have classes to worry about (BAWWWW), I should probably get cracking at that.
