Freezing during games

My XBox 360 has a problem where it will randomly freeze. It can be during loading, while playing, at any time really. Rarely at the same spot. I do not get any light show (RRoD) when it does decide to freeze. I am testing ripped games now, though it never has affected Hexic or Lumines.

It has some room behind it and on the opposite side of the harddrive. The power block is not on a rug. The system was purchased late August or early September. I have tried most of the things found here.

Anyone have any guesses on what else can be done, or must it be sent back to Microsoft?

I was going to say that you need to get your disc drive replaced, but sounds like you already figured that out.

If you have an in-store warranty, you can intentionally break the thing and get it replaced.

If you're feeling REALLY special you can try to replace the drive yourself, but there's so many ways to go wrong here.
