Floyd Rose Help :/

Ok, I got a guitar with a floyd rose and want to block it.

..uhh how?

I *DO NOT* want to buy anything (Hipshot, Tremol-no, Brass thing) or drill anything into the guitar.

I have heard ways, but I'm not exactly sure, and YouTube nor Google really has any in depth guides on it.

And a few question:

1) Is it easily reversible? (wood way)
2) Can you downtune?
3) If you break a string, does it stay in tune?
4) Will I be able to swap string gauges?
5) Will it cause any harm to the guitar (Eg. residue, etc.)

Easiest way to block a Floyd without buying any additional hardware or getting all tool happy on your guitar is to open the trem cavity at the back and fit a piece of wood between the floyd and the back of the cavity to prevent it being able to pull back. Play with the spring tension to prevent it being able to pull in the other direction and this should remove most of the problems they cause. Easy to reverse this too, simply remove the wood.

9v battery wrapped in paper works is about the right size too. Discovered this at a gig when the Floyd was playing merry hell with my tuning and I'd managed to break 3 strings on my main guitar. Just remember to take it out before it corrodes

And yeah, you can downtune fine with a blocked off trem. If you switch beetween a lot of different tunings on the fly, definitely look to getting a hardtail guitar in the future or having a pro sort out the trem for you.
