Yes. Your weapon must be max grinded before you can put elements on it, and it may require several elements.
You take your element and unequipped weapon to the custom shop across from the weapon shop, some weapons however cannot be sythesized if they have a preset element.
(weapons with an element but without prefix, caduceus being an example)

oh dang cuz my blade cannopn doesnt have heat before its name but it can still burn things, does that mean it won't work?
