If I remember correctly....shinken is a japanese term for a real sword (ie. one made out of steel, heat treated and sharpened). I'm not sure if it refers exclusively to a real sword made by Japanese smiths working in Japan, or to a sword in the Japanese tradition made by any smith in any part of the world.

I just take shinken to mean 'sword'. So naming your Srank 'Sword Sword' would be redundant.

I do know that the term shinsakuto refers to a Japanese sword made by Japanese smiths in Japan, in modern times. Look at the word...shin means 'new', saku means 'made by', and to roughly means 'sword'.

So 'newly made sword'.

Wouldn't it be appropriate to name it 'SHINSAKU SWORD'? Newly made sword...

It'll be funny when you swing it around though...I'm sure the S-rank sword looks nothing like a katana or a nodachi.

im not incredibly familiar with japanese myth, but to my knowledge the Shinken is one of the 3 sacred treasures of ancient Japan and Shinken = Divine Sword.

You're thinking of the Ame-No-Murakumo-no-Tsurugi, the Sacred Sword. I think it is better known as 'Kusanagi', or the Grass Cutting Sword. It is a blade which is double-edged like a Chinese Jian, or a European bastard sword.

Maybe a better name would be the TSURUGI SWORD...but I believe the term 'tsurugi' refers to a particular shape of japanese sword as far as bladesmithing is concerned. Perhaps KUSANAGI SWORD, would be a better choice, seeing as it directly refers to the one sacred sword, and not to any particular shape of sword.

When I get to around c7, I will contact the person first in line and confirm their choice. S-ranks are earned at about a rate of 1 per 1.5 days.
