Default Netflix Coming to Wii This Spring

Yup. That's right. Looks like Netflix is whoring themselves out to Nintendo now

Like the PS3, you'll need a disc to stream movies to the Wii.

The article I read spoke of a $9 monthly fee. I'm hoping that it's only referring to the Netflix fee. It wasn't quite clear.

So how many people are looking forward to this?

I'm not trying to Wii-bash here, just trying to point some things out.

For starters, Nintendo's own Nintendo Channel is completely unreliable. The streaming is poor quality and it freezes all the time. Can we trust that a "premium" product will do better?

No HD. Period. If you own a Netflix compatible Blu-Ray, a PC hooked up to your TV, Tivo, a PS3 or what-have-you, this new feature is already obsolete. I leave out 360 because you have to pay for a gold membership on top of your Netflix fee. I suppose it depends on how much HD really matters to a person.

Anyway, those are my two biggest concerns with this. Maybe it doesn't matter to you, but it will to some. I know several people who cancelled their Gold Memberships when PS3 got Netflix. I'm sure even more will when the Wii gets it.

Personally, I'll probably use this when I don't have my PS3 around. Unless it's just like the Nintendo Channel. Then not at all.

So are you Wii/Netflix owners/users excited? Don't care?

Funny how you leave out the 360 for HD streaming considering it was the first Netflix-ready device to stream in HD.
Nothing is sacred. Not that it ever was.

People had gold memberships just for netflix!!!!!?????? What kind of rediculous narrow vision is that????
but anyway it really doesn't matter, well to me anyway... but considering theres like a bazillion wiis out there, thats untapped market share $$$$$$$$
    Im really not that dangerous...

I ordered the disc just for the heck of it. It won't be terribly useful to me as I watch Netflix on the Xbox, but I'd imagine that lots of Wii-only homes will find this pretty cool.

This. It's good to know that this kind of stuff is available for every home console now.

You just have bad connection or the tv is not up to date. I've never had a problem with mine.

Sorry, thought that was assumed... I'm not saying it doesn't, because frankly, I think it's way more streamlined on the 360 right now. My friend's 360 netflix looks better than my PS3's right now anyway. We have roughly the same speed and all.

Not really. I mean, I stream Netflix on it just fine. Never any slowdown. My problem is that the NC is always needing to buffer its videos. Maybe I just suck.

And like Outrider said, I'm happy that all the families that bought only the Wii can now get a little bit of a more entertainment experience out of the console. Even if it is loud

I just think Nintendo kind of dropped the ball with the "HD sucks" thing. 720p would've been great.

I know this is kind of a slight hassle to do every time it expires, but as far as I know, those with a 360 who don't care about improving their netflix achievement points on their gamertag could always just continually create new gamertags. I believe a new gamertag comes with a free month of xbox live gold.
Slightly more labor intensive, but free and as someone else mentioned, HD capable.

Say, can a PS3 Netflix user answer a question for me? Does the Netflix DVD tie itself to your system, or could you carry it around from house to house if you wanted to?

I was thinking that while my girlfriend doesn't have Netflix, she does have a Wii, so maybe I could just bring over the streaming disc if we wanted to browse for some movies. Obviously, it wouldn't be exactly like the PS3 as there are no network-based profiles for the Wii, but I just wanted to check to see if there's any potential for this based off of the PS3 functionality.
