As gamers, a lot goes into why we love our games. Be it the cinematic experiences we get from Uncharted, or the deep and complex story telling of Mass Effect 2, or the throwbacks to the earlier days of gaming where jumping was considered cutting edge.
Around this site I notice users posting Youtube videos saying what songs are on the latest games and has to go into their iPod immediately.
But when I decide to go back and play some older games, the first thing that grabs me and reminds me of the way I was feeling all those years ago, is the music.
There's nothing like replaying The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and stepping out into Hyrule Field for the first time and hearing the booming orchestra. Or zipping through Green Hill Zone to all the synth pop.
So please, I ask that everyone post what songs were more than just ambient background noise to them. What makes you feel like you're on the brink of a challenge when you hear a particular tune? What melody plays that elevates that scene where it all comes together?
Here's my first:
The music that plays during the final boss of Golden Sun: The Lost Age. I remember playing this through my GBA's little speaker thinking "Oh hell yes"
A great remix was done for the latest Super Smash Bros.
Spoiler!
My next top one has to be "Debriefing" from Metal Gear Solid 3. If you haven't played/finished this game, you're missing out on some gaming history. Who could deny this orchestrated masterpiece given to you at the most tear-jerking moment when all of the conspiracies are laid out before you?
