    Default Your Favorite/Least Favorite Movies

I am a big Movie person and I tend to watch movies more than I play games nowadays. There's nothing like coming home from work and having a good meal and a movie .

Anyways, I want to hear of some really great movies/series that you guys have watched that you recommend. Feel free to explain why it's awesome and give a little info without spoilers please

I will start with a few:

    GOOD MOVIES

    CHOCOLATE:

Probably never heard of this one right? Well it's an "under the Radar" kind of movie. It's basically about a girl who kicks people booties. Starts off slow, but 30mns or so into it, I guarantee you'll love some of the fighting scenes. For fans of Tony Jaa/Karate films.

    THE DARK KNIGHT:

It's obvious I know, but for anyone who's been living under 3 rocks and haven't seen it yet, do yourself a favor and watch it. I'm not the biggest Batman fan, (Hell, I may not even be a fan at all) but I loved this movie. Joker alone makes this movie worth watching as he plays his part like he was born to. I'm able to look past Batman's Robot voice because how awesome this movie was x).

    SUCKY MOVIES

    Paranormal Activity:

I remember seeing the release trailer where everyone was in the theaters screaming like little girls. I thought, "Wow, I gotta see this when it comes to DVD." One day, I bought this DVD from a movie place and went home, turned all my lights out, turned volume up, closed my door, and popped this into my 37" TV. The result? Talking.............then finally....they went to sleep and then there were footprints (sooooo scary....not). I can't see how this movie could scare anyone, every chance it had to make me jump, it failed like in the end. Next day I gave this DVD to my friend and said...."Keep it." Worst movie ever.

Oh and how does a movie based on a real life story have alternate endings?

    I shall add more later.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is one of my favorites. It can be a little confusing on first viewing, but I've watched it a number of times now and it holds up years later. Jim Carrey is pretty exceptional in it.

Also, the past year and a half I've discovered an unhealthy obsession with Singin' in the Rain. I generally hate musicals (of the non-animated kind), but this movie is just so much fun that I can't help but love it.

Of course there are other movies I could mention, etc, etc.

Favorite: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

I had to watch it about three times before it started to make sense to me. I can watch this movie at any time on any day and I still love it.

    Least Favorite: FarCry

I'll never get those 90 minutes back.
I only watched this because it was on Netflix and I needed to see for myself how bad of a director Ewe Boll is.
Nothing is sacred. Not that it ever was.

I can't pick "favorites" or "least favorites". My tastes are far too diverse to condense down to a top ten or random "Hey, I like that movie too" list of films.

Though I will say that Cooking with Julia was a rather painful few hours to endure, and I think I lactated a little. Ugh. There was a "Confederate States of America" alternate history mocumentary by Spike Lee which audibly sucked... and "Second Skin" (a movie about online RPGs and their players) could not have been more ignorantly framed. It reminded me of those 1980's "AIDS" irrational fear orgies under the guise of "documentaries", exposing the "addictive and deadly" hidden world of Warcraft/MMOs.

2012 was pretty much fail as a movie, and fails in concept (2012 lulz), but might actually be considered good in a way - as it was an vulgar assault of special effects and adrenaline that seems more it was intended to send the message to Michael Bay that "you just got served, scrub".

Recently, some good movies I've seen include The Last King of Scotland, Changeling, The Soloist, and God Grew Tired of Us. Though I've been watching a lot of documentaries lately, mostly about science. Music Instinct: Science and Song, Nova: What are Dreams?, Atomic Cafe, and Nova: Becoming Human were all excellent. Especially Atomic Cafe which is nothing but a stream of roughly sequential military videos, music, propaganda, public service messages, and television interviews/editorials about the atomic fever which swept America in the late 40's and 50's. A must see for those who liked the style of Fallout 3, or are old enough to remember growing up in the Cold War era. Even had Burt the Duck & Cover Turtle. You can see the full movie on the studio's YouTube page here.

Paranormal Activity was pretty bad, I'll agree with ya. It's right up there with Blair Witch Project. The Prestige was another terrible movie.

There are too many films I've really liked, but a few that come to mind are Idiocracy, King Arthur, the Riddick movies, the Bourne trilogy, Watchmen, and of course all the Star Wars movies.

Hell yes, Atomic Cafe is brilliant! Had me singing that "Duck and Cover" ditty for weeks afterward...

Another good documentary I watched recently, on a completely different topic, is Man on Wire. Stick it in your queue.

Favorite movie: Star Wars: The Phantom Menace

Easily the best Star Wars movie. Most lovable characters for sure.

    Least favorite: Dr. Strangelove

Or any other Kubrick movie for that matter. Everything he does is simply overhyped. It really is just plain weird and makes no sense. I mean, does he really expect the audience to pay that much attention to detail? Whatever happened to giving the people what they want? All these pretentious "themes" can rest in the trash bin where they belong.

And "Eyes Wide Shut" is just porn, don't fool yourselves.

And he should feel bad for using "Singing in the Rain" in the way that he did.

    I hate Kubrick >:|

    LOL

Anyway, too vague a topic to make some choices. But I have my love of early 90's/late 80's action/sci fi movies (Blade Runner, Die Hard, Aliens, Terminator, etc), foreign (Old Boy, Samurai Fiction, Lady Snowblood), and of course, animated (Anything Don Bluth, most Disney films.)

My least favorites from this generation would probably be Cloverfield, and Watchmen. Watchmen was ok, but not "sit in my seat for 3 hours while holding in the need to piss, or else I'll miss something important" ok. Cloverfield was just annoying, and the only time I felt tremendous disappointment for something, after so much hype.

Favorite Film - Shaolin vs. Lama (1984)
"Buddha's name be praised...I enjoy good food and wine, and I love a fight. You're the ones had better leave here on a grave risk, challenging ME......."

i'm big into collecting quality kung-fu films, primarily from the older generation 70's - mid 80's. technique impresses me more than flashy special effects.

Least Favorite Film - Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo (2005)
among many along this caliber, this film was so bad i couldn't stomach to finish it & stopped it half way into it, the plot suffered severely with a story that went no where over glossed with tasteless comedy *shakes head* not my style.
