How does the weapon extend system work?

i noticed something on PSPedia2 dealing with extend data for weapons

i understand how the type extend system work in-terms of opening up and customizing the palette set for you characters type

but this has me kinda of confused, could someone explain this to me.

From playing the demo, you have class points. I don't know if there is a set amount that you can use or how much you can get from leveling. Once you use those points to extend a weapon type, such as turning your saber limit usage from C rank to B rank they disappear but can be refunded by removing said extend. Each upgrade requires significantly more points and the amount of actual points needed is determined by the actual weapon type.

As mentioned above, extending is just the last step to grinding. Once the Exam saber is 10/10, you use an extend code to turn it into an S-Rank, sometimes you get special properties. Extend codes are earned from the Challenge Mode (Full Game), or in the Japanese version, Trade Missions/Events.
