Digital painting is 'the trick' to do it! Letting go off drawing and then rendering the image is what set me free to do stuff like that no problem.
The sketches underneath my painting are getting rougher and I do more by directly painting. Also since the Destiny paintings I paint a lot with a 100% opacity brush, making it easier to paint details and strong shapes. Both these things save me tons of time and get me better results at the same time.
Your backgrounds have become amazing, I really dig the contrast and lighting in them. I think your figures need some work to catch up with the level of detail and work you put in the environment, but this is night and day compared to your earlier works I saw.
Thanks! Yeah, I've come a long way! Backgrounds are sooooooo easy to make. Especially when you start to grasp perspective. I do need to work on my characters indeed. I always like doing backgrounds more then characters. Usually my character sketches look better then when they are painted.
