The irony...I thought I was the only who ever wrote that for a topic in English Comp II.

I do not think it is the fault of the video game's content. They, themselves, are not the cause. However, it is an easy answer to blame games. But the only reason why some of it even effects children is that parents are not watching or paying attention to what their kids are viewing and playing. If I was a father, I would never let my 12 year old play games like GTA.

But I do think the rating system should stay. It is needed to inform what content that is objectible in the game.

its funny how a game with imposed nudity will get a "M" rating. while a movie with full frontal nudity will get PG-13. even more stupid the game is 50 bucks, while the movie can be seen on cable for free.

I'm completely against censorship(not just because MTV'll never play my song The Most Offensive Song in the World).
I think that if something is made, it should be distributed the way it came into the world. Hell, if we started exposing young kids to things like sex and violence at a young age, they won't grow up to be so uptight about such things in the media. To those who say "Oh, but violence in Video Games causes people to COMMIT acts of violence!" I respond "Sure, and the guy beating the shit out of his son for no reason had no affect on the young lad's mind."
I feel that the Offspring song Way Down The Line coveys how I feel with the lyric "An angry man get's drunk and beats his kids, the same old way his drunker father did..." I mean, censorship is like trying to stop child/spousal abuse, except it's getting rid of something that many people want.
Somewhere around, I've an essay I wrote on sex & violence being censored in the media that I wrote before I dropped out(so, from about... six or so months ago). I haven't the faintest idea in which stack of papers it's in. But if I can get my hands on it before much longer I'll post the bugger.

I've written on these kind of topics since i've been writing term papers or research papers. Here's an interesting little quote I came across while doing my paper this year

"It is sad to think that the first few people on earth needed no books, movies, games or music to inspire cold blooded murder." -Marilyn Manson

Well, just thought that was an interesting quote.

Like anything, censorship is only good in moderation.
I.E. many posters have said that censorship is good to prevent 12 year olds and under from buying games such as GTA, but mature gamers and adults should have the priveledge to buy the kind of games that they like.

I remmeber reading an article in a local paper regarding "mandatory filtering" of australian ISP's. How fucked up would that be? I should be entitled to view what i want. and while a majority of people don't search the net for porn and nothing else, a lot of subtle things can fall under the ban list.
My website, titled "Abaddon's realm" woudl fall under the filtering list, purely for the word Abaddon. (It has a negative connotation in many european religions) so yeah

to sum it up, censorship in moderation is fine, but should nto be relied upon, and the govt can get fucked if they mandate filtering of all ISP's

That is so true. The media is just a huge scapegoat and censorship is just a simple solution to a complex problem.

even some foreign commercials have nudity in them. shit we cant even get that in prime time. Hell, if anyone seen the new add for Puma tennis shoes, you know they take it a lot further
