Someone describe the "magical girl" trope to me please.

And uh, yeah, it IS bias. Im not even going to say it isn't. I just think it's retarded, and i can never take the characters seriously. None of them look like fighters, and none of their fights are believable, no matter how much dust or sparks or fire or explosions or blood (lol) or impossibly cool and intricate weapons they'll put in it. I just don't see why little 4 foot tall, 12 year old girls are such a subject of entertainment.

There is a difference between a girl who is a small/short fighter, and a small/short girl who fights. The latter is how i feel about Magical Girl shows. And it's why i hate lolis and almost anything that looks like one, or is part of the trope.

This is a genre ostensibly aimed at kids. That should be all you need to understand the majority of them.

Forgiving obvious subjectivity, these 'good' productions are far too few to generate any reasonable hope for the industry as whole. As the opiate of the masses, anime is now a gutter-level street product cut with so much tropetastic fanservice that it's no small wonder watching it isn't lethal.

It should also be noted that the above 'good' examples are not the garbage Sakai is going to sell you.

It seems every single time the subject is broached, I have to bring up Sturgeon's Law.

I repeat Sturgeon’s Revelation, which was wrung out of me after twenty years of wearying defense of science fiction against attacks of people who used the worst examples of the field for ammunition, and whose conclusion was that ninety percent of SF is crud.
Using the same standards that categorize 90% of science fiction as trash, crud, or crap, it can be argued that 90% of film, literature, consumer goods, etc. are crap. In other words, the claim (or fact) that 90% of science fiction is crap is ultimately uninformative, because science fiction conforms to the same trends of quality as all other artforms.

In other words, stop stating the bloody fucking obvious and using it as some kind of platform for "oh everything's terrible everything is shit woe is the new generation who has to put up with this shit" whingage. I mean, okay, seriously? Is there any way you can possibly not sound like an insufferible prick when you act like that?

Edit: As for the subjectivity crap, go see this list if you really, absolutely require the closest thing to an "objective" measurement of quality. (It may be interesting for you to note that none of the big three shounen series show up in the top 30.)
