Well, I'm not a Metal Gear nerd, so I wouldn't know. It just looks better than the old, crappy MG games, with the (obviously) Bayonetta-esque action sequences.

To garner their fans on both consoles, it was originally announced for Xbox 360. Somewhere down the line it was then announced for a PS3 release. The original trailer and sequences didn't have that Devil May Cry-esque feel to it, but it basically looked like MGS4 with more emphasis on killing everything.

Previous MGS games in the series, focused heavily on stealth and gun play, this is more of a hack and slash style game when it was moved to Platinum. Even though I played Bayonetta a bit, it still looks more like a DMC crossover game.

Not sure if this still applies, the original statement from Kojima Productions stated that Hideo Kojima, is not leading the development on the game rather a senior member of the production is heading it. So don't expect it to have an extensive backstory like the previous game. So if you're wanting to try to hack and slash your way through the game with some practice beforehand, try MGS4's online only MGO. You have to pay for the addons for characters like Raiden, but he is a bit overpowered if you play him right.

On another note, MGS has a really extensive side story and throughout each game, weird and crazy easters can be found. For example MGS3: Subsistence, the second disc contained unlockable movies that basically made fun of the games. The PSP game MGS: Peace Walker, had some references to an obscure title(Boktai! The sun is in your hands) as well as including Hideo Kojima(MGS developer) as a hidden cameo character that you can play as.

Edit: After watching the trailer again, I have the urge to play Vanquish.

It pretty much sounds like they're screwing it up already, so I'm not exactly looking forward to it.

MGS4 brings pretty much every major character arc to a close. Raiden's character arc is completely finished and locked down and he's essentially no longer in commission.

Having the game set between MGS2 and MGS4 made a lot of sense and would help fill in a lot of the questions brought up by MGS4's reintroduction of Raiden.

Having the game set after MGS4 just doesn't make a lick of sense. It seems like either they're ignoring the ending they already created for the character, or they decided to completely give up on the original character arc and just throw together a plot.

It also doesn't help that it just looks like any old action slash-em-up game, instead of a Metal Gear game with more of an action focus. I'm sure Platinum Games will make a fun game, but generally Metal Gear games are about much more than just being fun.

Then again, maybe it's just this new reveal that's making me feel like they've made a mistake. It could turn out that the game could still feel like a real Metal Gear title. I'll still keep an eye on the game for now at least.

I'm excited because it's a Platinum game, but confused because it says 'Metal Gear' on the box. Platinum tends to make story ancillary, while focusing on hi-octane gameplay. That's quite the opposite from what I expect from a Metal Gear game. Every one so far has had good gameplay, but it takes a back seat to the story.

Raiden vs Travis touchdown for playstations rumoured wannabe smashbros!

I mean, I still think this game looks fun, and metal gear just means it's going have those mechs right? Hideo probably see's it as a big joke or something that could also be a fun game anyway. Iono. Doesn't he like those corny action movies? Whateverrr...

Now I forgot what I was gonna say.

Hmmm i'm not a fan of the MGS games. Not into that stealth action stuff (outside Shinobido), but def into games like Ninja Gaiden.

Bayonetta, Ninja Gaiden, whatever. The new direction of MGS in this game looks great. Def a must buy for a pure action game. I loved Bayonetta, so yeah this is a def Day One buy.

Considering that Platinum Games is probably the single best game development studio in Japan right now, considering how high they've set the quality bar with Bayonetta and Vanquish, there's really no reason to not look forward to Revengeance if you like action games. Especially with a name like "Revengeance."

ProTip: To damage your credibility, simply call any of the Phantasy Star games "massively-multiplayer."
