History is actually one of the most important subjects, actually. That George quote is actually probably the biggest reason for its existence. Many of our worst offenders of mistreating people, their company, or their office, are those who ignored history. Or a group that ends up making the same mistakes that happened way back then, because they couldn't see the pattern.

Oddly enough, it took a fedora and a whip to open my eyes to that. Indiana Jones. The idea of researching the history of those before you go there was a prominent theme in terms of success in the original trilogy. It also paid off in real life when I went to france. My knowledge of Charlemange in past French history, and my ability to reference it, helped me have a good time in france. (That and me remembering that same crown was used when Napoleon grabbed it and crowned himself) I got some good treatment there, afterwards. Thanks Indy.

It's not so much about the language one speaks. People really appreciate it when a stranger takes the time to learn about them.

Also it's easier to learn from other people's mistakes than you own.

^ That was another quote, yet oddly enough these days losing its significance. Nowadays, the history is written only by the winning side if the losing side is completely wiped out. More and more, we hear both sides of the story in history. Oftentimes, the winners reveal their own issues people can learn from.
