I keep getting errors numbers 674 and 242 when I type in my password, and I'm pretty sure it's right. The game just won't let me even try to play. Does Sega have a personal grudge against me or something?

Just keep on trying, it should work eventually.
I don't know about 674, but 242 is apparently a "wrong credentials" error.
