The cards typically list a website on the back of them that you can go to and register the card under your name so that it can be used for online purchases. I used to do this all the time with Simon Mall Visa gift cards before I had debit card to use.

i used to just copy what it says on the card

"your name"

or "your card"

or whatever it says lol. Worked for me when i was doing online gambling.
