PSO2 Black screen during tutorial.

I just started playing and despite trying multiple times I keep getting a this weird black screen with nothing but the chat log. I'll start the game, everything will run fine, I'll run through the beginning tutorial and get past it but once I get to the point where I'm supposed to "defeat the darker swarm" it looks like it's about to go to a cut scene but it never loads and just hangs instead. I still get music and sound, the mouse still moves and I can alt+f4 out of the game, so it's still running and hasn't totally frozen.

Anyone have any tips?

I'd just like to Bump this thread as I'm also experiencing this exact same problem.

Restore the game to its original files (3rd option down on the launcher)

Then apply the English patch only, not the Story patch.

See if it works or not.
The story patch sometimes breaks things.
