How many items can I get from a single AC scratch? And what is the optimal way of scratching - should I buy a ticket for 5000 AC or use single scratches - what's the catch? I read on GameFAQs that gold scratches are useful only for those who have lots of accounts or something

One 200AC scratch = one item. One 500AC gold scratch = one guaranteed cosmetic AC item.
The 2200AC bundle gives you twelve scratches and the 5000AC (the gold version you mentioned) bundle gives you eleven scratches that are guaranteed cosmetic items.

Also, as much as I like GameFAQs, the Phantasy Star Online II thread there is garbage full of misinformation (combination of players who know nothing of the game at all, SEA players mistakenly answering things for the wrong version of the game and/or far too many people who STILL think a US version of the game is coming).

It's one free roll out of 11/12 respectively. I wouldn't call it worthless if you're willing to roll that much.

Does the Ability stat on a MAG not exist anymore?

I was looking at whats the best mag to level and what stats for a Hunter and I keep seeing Striking and Ability.. yet no idea what Ability is supposed to mean.

It's probably the Dexterity/Aptitude stat. Your MAG's DEX will increase when fed any Weapon or Unit, and will decrease when fed a Room Item.

Also besides Koffies quests that unlock all the areas, what NPC quest givers should be going to the most to advance progression, even if its not the main story itself. Just progression onto all the quests etc.

For instance I finished the open forest one at 9 and there are not any at Koffie so should I focus on the primary NPC for the story for more quests to show up or is it based on level?

Volcano ARKS Quest should unlock automatically after finishing Forest Exploration. Just follow the same pattern for unlocking Forest and you'll breeze through all the unlocking.
